monitors on foam

Hey just a thought. My montiors are on pretty high density foam that i took from a road case that was being chucked out. If nothing else, it's good for getting the monitors right at ear level. But I was wondering if it would be better for the movement of low frequencies if I cut the foam into four smaller pieces and just put it on each corner of the speaker box?

It won't make any difference at all. What you're getting now is some low end isolation; doing all the corners instead of the entire bottom of the speaker really won't make any sonic difference, or that's my guess anyway.

Thanks Frank.

I was at a mastering suite recently which had those upside-down cone-shaped speaker things (good description, i know) and he seemed to get a really great bottom end. But I guess that because his monitors were about $4000 more than mine!!

Sure, that's probably a big part of it. He's probably got his speakers isolated from the structure in a more sophisticated way as well.

there's specific material for that acting according to the weight of the monitors as well as the frequencies involved
