space between shelves and ceiling

would there be any benefit in filling the space between the top of the shelving units and the ceiling (5" tall 17" deep) with 703 and stretching fabric across the front?

Yes

I reckon there would be considerable benefit. I would do that corner as well.

Absolutely. Any small space like that can have it's own resonances build up. Having that much of it would definitely need to be addressed IMO. Add in the fact that those are 'corners' too and it's definitely something I would do.

You can do absorbers the full depth of the cabinet and get good extension into the bass.

You could also fill the empty pigeon holes and get quite a bit of absorption.
Not sure what would be the best pattern, like checkerboard or maybe
concentrate them directly behind you since you're working across the narrow
dimension of the room.

Your monitors are pretty far apart compared to where you are. Any chance of
moving them in a bit, maybe on the wall ?
