Small square studio help

Hey all, was wondering if anyone could offer some advice.

Despite nearly a decade of production experience, I know jack about acoustic treatment and I move to a new home/studio in a few weeks.

The room (see Boxroom below) I have for my studio is basically a 2.2m square with 3m high ceilings

Unfortunately, my new studio will be directly next to the living room and I produce house/techno so I'd like to reduce the amount of disturbance to my girlfriend nextdoor and neighbours above and below.

As I say I know jack about room treating but my plan was as follows;

2ft bass traps in each corner at head height.
Covering all the rest of the walls and ceiling in a fairly broadband acoustic tile, IE;

There's not a lot of space so I can't really change the room shape too much plus it's a working studio and I can't afford for it to be out of action for more than a few days, would the above be adequate?

I monitor on KRK RP5s.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Dean

Hey Dean,
Bass traps in all corners is GREAT but because your room is squ (and small) I would also put bass trapping in the upper corners like the following

You may want to use rigid fiberglass or mineral wool based instead of foam as it will hit more of the mid lows for the rest of the room.

Also for the back wall I would go with THICK panels (maybe 6" thick) as you will have strong nulls and peaks from that area.

You pretty much are par for course with most studio owners, which is fine. If you would like to learn more I would recommend you do a lot of reading here in this area of GS and also read some of the articles we have on our company website
GIK Acoustics presents Acoustics Primer: Some Basics on Acoustics.

Good luck on the room.

+1. Foam is basically a waste of wall space in a room that small because it's designed to solve a problem that you're not going to have. You need a ton of broad band treatment and bass traps.

Surely foam will help with sound isolation?

Broadband treatment like what?

Cheers,
Dean

No, sound isolation can only be solved with THICK solid mass.

Frank was talking about broadband treatment made from rigid fiberglass or mineral wool. It will absorb a lot more mids and low end, which is going to be the biggest problem with your room.

Can these be bought off the shelf? Are we just talking large bass traps here?

Not even close to overkill.
