| Here is a video of my room: zSHARE - My room.wmv All I did was stand in the middle and take photos as I rotated myself 360 Degrees. This is all the equipment\software I am\will be using to make music in my studio. Equipment: --Self-Built Desktop PC: -790FX Motherboard -Amd Athlon 64X2 6000+ 3.0GHz -8GB RAM -HD4870 Graphics card -500W Power supply -Audigy 1 Sound card (Will upgrade to Delta 1010) -500GB HDD -1TB HDD (Will have) --Acer 20" Monitor --Sonic-Cell(Will have) --Motif-ES8 Rack(Might have) --M-audio Keystation 88ES(Will have) --M-audio Keystation 25 --Akai MPD24 or Maschine(Will have) --KRK VXT4, 6 OR 8 (Will have) Software: --Windows 7 RC --FL Studio 8 Producer(Getting this week) --Cubase 5 (Will get) --Komplete 5(Will get) --Real Guitar 2(Will get) --EWQL Goliath(Will get) --Trilogy(Will get) --Ivory(Will get) --(Omnisphere(Will get) As you can tell, this setup is not going to take up much room at all, since I wont have a hardware mixer right now. Basically, my main goal is to soundproof this room, and to make it sound nice inside without making it look too odd. Ideally, I would want as little sound to escape as possible. Behind my house is a cornfield, so some sound can escape through my window. I need to cover my ceiling, door, left side, and window \ window side. I need help on what material to buy to soundproof my room, and make it sound nice with the KRK monitors I'll be buying. EDIT: I cannot take apart my room, install isolation material between the drywall and use Green Glue to attach it. That will be so much work \ money. I'm trying to get it so that nobody will complain\hear me making music outside of my room. I plan on using KRT V4, 6 or 8 Monitors. I don't know exactly how loud they will be. Only as loud as I need them to be able to mix\create really well. So.. I was thinking of making (12) 2' x 4' x 2" Fiberglass panels to fit around my room. Save up a month or so more and then getting the corners with "Super Chunk" Bass traps. EDIT 2: I just read a bit more. It looks to me as if treatment is good for getting true sound, but not for "soundproofing" or "sound isolating". The question remains though. EDIT 3: It looks like I won't get good soundproofing without taking apart my drywall. If anybody knows a solution that doesn't involve taking apart my drywall please post it. EDIT 4: I'm going to save up for GreenGlue + Drywall. Panoramic view of my room attached: |

| Thank you. I did most of the research after I posted the thread .Where is the cheapest place to get Fiberglass Panels that are 2' by 4' that you know of? Applies to all. Cheapest Ive found so far was 12 panels for $118 w/o shipping included. Don't bother to post anything higher than that. |

| Ethan, Where is the 38% Line inside my awkwardly shaped room? I don't know the math to find it NOTE: I ADDED THE LINE SEPARATORS TO HELP ME CALCULATE THE AREA OF MY ROOM. IT IS ACTUALLY ONE BIG WEIRD SHAPE. NOTE2: 93 Represents Height. IMG REMOVED: LOOK BELOW |

| The length is 152 inches because the recess is small and is partially filled in with a bookcase. So 38% is 57 inches from the front wall. But 38% is just a starting point anyway. You need to measure to know where is best. --Ethan

| Ethan: I decided to move the book-case. Here is an updated diagram of my room. ![]() What I did to get 38% was Divide the sum of both lengths of the room by two. (151 + 182.5)/2 = 166.75. Then I got 38 percent of that : 166.75*.38 = 63.366. I am 10 inches off, and I cannot move my desk back anymore due to my bed. I'm going to find out how to ghetto-measure once I get my monitors. I don't have a good MIC nor do I have the interface needed for the regular testing. For now I'm going to just need to figure out where to place the 12 Fiberglass panels + 1 Large one that covers the window. Then I get my monitors. After them, I get the Fiberglass panels. Then I calculate the costs of Drywall+GreenGlue for Soundproofing. Then I buy the Greenglue+Drywall. After that I do some weather-taping around my door and such. Then my room will be acoustically setup + Soundproof. 1 Big problem: My door is hollow. It weighs like 10 pounds maybe? The gap between my floor and it is like 2 inches as well. EDIT: I really appreciate the help btw. Those websites did me wonders. |

| Lives for gear | Just to reiterate... the "38% rule" is just a starting point, especially if your room is non-rectangular. It's a good place to start, but you MUST experiment and/or test to make sure that's the best spot for you.

| Unless you replace the door with a solid core, and add at least 1 layer of gypsum to the entire room, including the ceiling, you really aren't going to stop one bit of sound from exiting the room. Your plan for a window plug will knock a bit of sound down, but very, very little. It should at least contain some sort of frame that you can attach a bit of gasketing to it. Remember, where air goes, so goes sound.

| Yep, the thing would be air-tight shut. I'd have to find some kind of frame equipment that air tightens it. |
