BBC

Ethan, Yes to all of that!
The BBC had a Tunable Amplifier. It added a very narrow band boost to the normal signal program. Sweeping this boost on say a voice or instrument recording in a room with issues, set off the modes and colourations like firecrackers.

Hi there Ethan. I noticed that the waterfall has a 30 db dynamic range.. I would be interested to see the the other 60 db?

The graphs above from my recent tests span a 40 dB range, not 30. I prefer to limit the range to better see the trees and ignore the forest. Actually, I usually show a 30 dB range. Then you can see where each peak falls through the floor, so to speak. Regardless, below are the same measurements as above, but displayed over a 60 dB range. As you can see, it's more difficult to see what's going on, especially for the untreated test.

I think it looks pretty good. I wish I had measured my old room which was 14.5 x 11.5 x 8 for comparison.. I think this is a good target room size for you and could be very helpful to many people. I'll bet your room has $12,000 dollars worth of treatment though.. Go ahead, give us the total..

At least.

But in the grand scheme of things, that's not a lot for someone who is a serious professional and has already spent even more than that on their gear.

We spend more on acoustics than gear, simply because only good speakers in a good room tell you what your gear is doing. Your treated graph looks nice. Some people will have a problem with the very linear bass though :-) They seem to like what a 100hz bump does for their tiny speakers...

You are preaching to the choir here... But I know what a hard sell it is.

Just as important, the decay times should be as even as possible over the entire range of frequencies. As it happens, I'm about to finish a video showing the RT60 as measured in a room 16 by 11.5 by 8 feet. The attached graph shows the decay times in third-octave bands for the room empty, then with a bunch of bass traps and reflection absorbers, and then again with diffusors covering all the remaining surfaces. You can see the huge improvement in uniformity with the diffusors in place.

Nice graph! I would definitely hire you with *that* kind of resume! I'm official sold on diffusors. Darn it, now I have to make something else. fuuck lol jk

How are we going to know when this video is done. I'm new and haven't heard about it. Is it instructional in general or about reverb decay specifically? Can I buy a copy? Are you going to include how to make/acquire the diffusors you're using and how to use them?
