floor plan for basement studio - feedback please

hello kind human beings.

my name is steven and i play in a rock n' roll band in lawrence, kansas. i am in process of building my first studio so i can record my band in addition to some other presently unclassified works of music i have written. my basement 'live room' is rectangular, roughly 13' x 23' and 7.5 to 8' tall, and i am planning on building on the room-within-room concept.

i have an education (ha), relatively modest musical skills (ha), and no carpentry skills whatsoever (no ha). needless to say, this is quite the exciting project for me and i want to make some great-sounding, very unique recordings since i play enough instruments to record albums myself - but i don't want to **** it up. i've got a grand budgeted out to make walls... already have a growing collection of beautiful rugs for the floors... still contemplating what i will do with the ceiling.

i want to make my walls heavy, absorbant, and able to be moved out of the basement to the next place relatively easily. mobility is the god of my life, therefore, i am making the following:

i plan to build 4' x 7'6'' sheetrock 'blast' walls: essentially, a 4' 2x8 on top and bottom of 4 evenly spaced 2x4s. i plan on filling those gaps with compressed, unfaced insulation, and over top of that on both sides i plan to screw in 3 sheets of 5/8" sheetrock - for a total of 6 sheets of sheetrock per blast wall. i will then place a layer of carpet over top of the side facing the interior of the 'live' room.

i plan on placing these 'blast' walls no less than 2" away and no more than 5'' from the cement walls of the basement - essentially splayed, and to me really just alternating acute and obtuse angles somewhat similar to an accordion if you were standing inside of it and about to be blown out in a musical-note orgasm......

where there may be leakage problems (such as the obtuse angles), i plan to put 4x4s in front of the gaps. or maybe i will leave gaps in between all blast walls. this idea is about making the sound inside the accordion-shaped live room as yummy to the ears as possible. quite frankly, the neighbors can go **** themselves if the sound outside ever gets too loud (i doubt it will), and i happen to be banging the hot brunette upstairs, so i doubt she will mind the noise level (she herself will be participating in the sound-making).

in addition to this room, i have another equal amount of empty basement space that is partially separated from my live room by a stairwell. most of that room will remain open, however i might turn a 6x6 or 8x8 corner into a circular vocal booth. my mixing board will be upstairs above ground.

and that's it so far. what do you all think of this idea? as i stated before, i am not a carpenter. jesus (apparently) was a carpenter; all i do is make music for my own sanity. help me achieve quality.

ps: i plan to get an allen&heath zed r-16 plus a slew of good mics that i've researched but cannot currently recall (that list is on another computer), plus a new laptop with windows xp in place of vista.

I'm not an isolation expert, but it seems to me that "isolation" and "portable walls" are mutually exclusive.

Agreed. The closest you can get is John Sayers' inside-out wall design, which can be easily built in 4x8 modular sections.

However, they need to be sealed airtight, which will be a royal PITA if you ever want to move them.
