New Studio Layout

I am in the process of building a new house and I have put aside two connected rooms for a studio. They are the dining room and 4th bedroom on the first floor.

I plan on making the dining room the live room and the other room the control room. Any ideas on where to put the desk, etc?

I'm thinking to face the window on the front of the house. The room is relatively square but I think that would be the best way to give you the fewest hassles in front of you - though it'll be hard to see into the other room that way. Guess you could face the right wall.

I planned on putting it against the right wall, but then I thought about the whole 'square room' thing. Also, I am going to build over the door in the control room, as well as the live room door to the kitchen.

Is there a possibility of not having the wall dividing them (hopefully its not structural) and building one big combo room?

A lot of times, one bigger room is far acoustically superior to two small ones.

Obviously depends a lot on construction, your preferences, etc...

I do plan on leaving the two rooms connected with the large entryway that is pictured. The walls next to the entryway are load-bearing though.

Does anyone think it would be better to switch the rooms around, and make the top room the control room? I wanted to make the top room the live room because of the tray ceiling. Any suggestions?

Nah...I'd use the top room as the live room for the high ceiling.

That's fine, and the half-walls are fine too as long as you don't complete the wall to make two small rooms. Use either half-room as the mix area, then have the speakers fire down the long dimension. With enough treatment you'll be able to get very good results.
