Thread Starter | help treating a tracking room
I have a new tracking room to work with. It is a rectangle 20x10, with low ceilings about 8'. I have bass traps in the corners and some on the walls. I really want to tighten up the room, but I don't know where to start any help would be great. I will be recording loud rock bands in this room.

| I'd make the guitars sound right and run the bass direct. Drums will not sound good in a room that size.... -tINY |

plenty of bass traps. i have a room not too dis-similar to that, i have 9ft ceilings. i believe my drums sound good, so yours should be too ! of course there's things you're not going to be able to do. but it's workable, and you're lucky to have a room that size! i've worked in much smaller ! |

Bass traps in every corner, including wall/ceiling corners. Absorption on the ceiling, certainly above where the drum kit or any other key recording areas are. If you can, do the entire ceiling, possibly with ceiling tiles: ![]() If you have the budget for it, use diffusors on the walls, especially near any recording areas. If diffusion is out of the budget, then use absorption. I'd also recommend some gobos or movable panels to arrange around the performers. You'll want to make sure you don't make the room too dead. You can do this by installing bass traps that are semi-reflective at higher frequencies and diffusion.

I would treat the entire ceiling or at least cover it with as many clouds as you can. Corner traps in all four corners. And then you can put up panels on the wall to control flutter and early reflection or build some gobos to put around instruments while recording.
