Thread Starter | attaching a wall to the ceiling with resiliant channel? I've just framed the inner walls of a new control room in my basement, not touching anything but the slab. for the time being we aren't finishing the ceiling of the live room, so the outer wall facing the live room will be attached directly to the existing ceiling joist. my question is would it be a good idea to attach the wall to the ceiling with resilient channel rather that directly to the joist in an effort to avoid having the wall act as a giant transducer to the floor above, or is it irrelevant as any sound that is hitting the wall directly is also hitting the majority of the unfinished ceiling currently? I may eventually put a ceiliing on the live room. thanks for any insight!

| Definitely. That's how I'm going to do it. But I'm going to hang the 1st ceiling layer on rc then fasten walls to that. Then more ceiling and wall layers. On John Sayers site, there are some guys that made some brackets with neoprene to de-couple walls from outer leafs. Might search it. If you just attach the walls to your ceiling joist the sound will flank right through. |

| This may sound stupid, but why do you need the wall to attach to the ceiling? Rigidity? |

| To keep it from falling over with all the weight. The corners are fastened to each other, but code would call for more fastening than that. The brackets I'm referring to are like 2 L's.They look like this ____l__l (except upside down) and where contact is made it's lined with neoprene. Walls are usually fasten at least at every joist, 16 in. The drywall will be held down 1/4 in. then caulked. |

| For a commercial product, look at PAC International DC-04 Isolation Clips. They're designed just for this purpose. Bryan

| We used rubber turnbuckle type of attachments from Kinetic Noise control to attach the inner walls to the floor joists above. Then we use pre-loaded spring hangers with cold rolled steel and resilient channel by ASC for the ceilings. Regards, |
