| Lives for gear | Need help with my awful room!
Hi I'm currently making my bedroom into a recording studio...I've been using it that way for awhile but have some money to spend right now and am looking to treat the room properly...it's hideous! It's a small room (no exact specs right now because I'm out of town) and it has an awful metal radiator that you can definitely hear resonating in recordings. The first thing I'm doing is dealing with the radiator. I bought a room divider and put acoustic foam all over one side, and am buying 703 to cover the other side...that effectively blocks it out as much as possible without being a fire hazard and it sort of takes care of some parallel walls. The real question I have is what does everyone think about having my bed in the room??? I assume it must be pretty decent at absorption, but it also takes up a lot of room. I'm racking my brain thinking of how to fit my bed in the living room, but it's not too easy or convenient. I have the JBL LSR4326p's to try and help account for the room problems, but the recordings sound bad, even with the SE reflexion filter...is this workable or do I really have to get rid of the bed so I can do the standard absorption setup i.e. bass traps in corners...diffusion in back absorption elsewhere deal. I'm kind of rambling but I don't know what the best way to proceed is! Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks |

If you can remove the bed then I would do so. If you plan on keeping it then put it in the back of the room. Glenn

Room size, shape and composition is critical information. Without that it's hard to say anything specific. I can say this though: if it's a small, untreated room then recordings made in it are going to sound bad, reflection filter or no. The room has to be treated...once that happens to whatever degree is necessary then people can usually get usable tracks on most things. Frank

Thanks...I'm going to do some more work on it and see what I can do and maybe ask for more help later. I'm definitely planning on getting at least a couple GIK bass traps in a few weeks.
