Thread Starter | Wood & low freq If a room are built complete by wood panels, all roof and walls. Will it absorb low frequencies and make the room sound very bright?

| Just putting wood up on a surface doesn't make it into a low-frequency-absorbing resonant panel. Yes, the panel will reflect/absorb frequencies in a specific nature, but wood alone does not comprise a bass-trapping mechanism (although its commonly used in those implementations). If anything, the way wood reflects sound is "flatter" in response than a lot of other building materials (not to say the reflection off wood is flat from 20 to 20K obviously), so its often a great choice (plus it looks good!) |

Thread Starter | Ok, I understand. Thanks for info. I thought at first that I had bass cancelations in the room because I don't get much low freq at all in the room but it didn't get better even though I used bass traps in each corner. I just thought the lack of bass would have something to do with the studio construction and all wood everywhere. |

Thread Starter | No I didn't measure the room before or after but even though they might do something the problem is still there. I think the panels comes from pine wood. |

| Lives for gear | This is actually a very controversial topic, fairly hotly debated by even experts in acoustics and acoustic treatment. I would tend to land on the side you're both landing on; that the difference in surface composition would alter the total coefficient for the room, which would result in an audible difference. Others disagree. I say all of this to simply make the point that it may not be as simple as we all think. Frank

| ^^indeed I would definitely still say that building a room out of wood is not going to give you a room that has great bass response. You will need plenty of construction/devices specifically chosen for additional bass trapping. (Obviously that's a bit of a blanket statement, especially debatable as the size of the room increases). |
