Thread Starter | Control room/live room treatment
Hi folks, I'm collecting the keys to this next week. PHOTOGRAPHS My plan is to the make main area an open plan control room/live room. Heres what I have in mind so far. I will set up my gear facing the front of the unit. My speakers (floor standing)will be 3' from the front wall, 8' apart, and I'll be 8' away from them. This leaves approx a 25x20 space for the live room end which I'm not too sure how to treat. However, for the front control rm end, there will be 2 mondo bass traps 1 in each front corner. I understand how to do the mirror thing for first reflection points and will do that, and put treatment at those points. As I wont be putting down carpet yet I thought maybe I should put some rw3 rockwool ( european equivalent of oc 703 I think) on the floor in front of the speakers to stop reflections there? Do you think it can work? Any and all suggestions welcomed. Thanks in advance. Liam |

I'm sure you can make a nice large space like that work well, but you'll need a lot more than just two bass traps. --Ethan

Hi Ethan, All my other spaces were smaller than this so was accustomed to putting in as much bass trapping as possible, I wasn't too sure how far to go with bass traps in a space this size. I suppose the way to go is to keep putting in bass traps till the bottom end tightens up? So at the live room end I presume more bass trapping and maybe diffusers. What would be nice is to get different sounds in different parts of the room. In the end I suppose its going to be a lot of experimenting. Anyway, if anybody has any more suggestions feel free to share. Liam |

Sure, and if you measure the room response as you progress you'll be able to see exactly what's happening. Quote: What would be nice is to get different sounds in different parts of the room. That room is definitely large enough to do that, with one end absorbent and the other diffusive etc. Thanks for that Ethan. This is all very encouraging so far. I'll be picking up the keys for it on Monday and getting stuck in there after. This is for private projects at first so plenty of time to experiment and get it sounding right. Cant wait to get started. Liam |
