Question Using the Room Eq Wizard

I've searched GS and the REW help for a while now, but can't find the answer to this:

Is it possible to do measurements without calibrating with a SPL meter first?

Could I just hook up my mic->pre->PTHD, and then configure the ins and outs in REW, and go?

I'm home for the night but would like to get going with REW tomorrow morning. Would be nice to know if I have to get an SPL meter (and if it has to be any specific model, or features) on my way to the studio tomorrow.

If there's a good REW thread that I've missed, please tell me.

Thanks!

you don't need an spl meter - just set your monitors to a comfortable listening level and tell the program that's 75db when you run the calibration test. of course, it'll be wrong, but the frequency response is just as valid relative to itself.

Yeah, you've got it right. Just get REW up and running and that's all you'll need.

Has anyone here successfully used Room EQ wizard with a 002R?

I'm trying to make it work on Leopard 10.5.6, following the help files, and these videos. YouTube - Room EQ Wizard - Step 1 - Calibration

So far I'm not having much luck. I can't even get past the matching levels step, or the sound card calibration.

Tips welcome!

Cheers
Adam

I'm afraid I've forgotten what I did, but I believe that I skipped the calibration stuff. You know, you don't have to do it to get a graph. Since I have Prism interface and a great mic I just began measuring. Got some readouts but I found the REQ not very stable on my system. I believe it may work better with non PTHD hardware. Yesterday I downloaded FuzzMeasure which have been rocksteady this far.

I know little about Macs, but I have heard many times that REW does not work well with Macs. It's great on PCs though. I do know that FuzzMeasure works great on Macs.

Using REW with MacPro 8core up to date is impossible for me.
... although MacBook White is excellent for that task.
Using same interface ff800.

I've tried to install it on XP 64bit with Java 64-bit, but REW .exe keeps telling me I need to install Java. So am I out of luck with 64-bit windows and REW?

I suggest you go over to the REW Forum and ask them for help.
