rehersal / live room pictures - before / after acoustic treatment

Hi !
Here are the results of my just yet finished work in my tiny basement room, I did a lot for acoustic treatment, all by myself, according to all the good advices I collected through this awesome forum !
It wasn't so easy because of the very low and bowed ceiling... but I keep in mind to set here my existing home studio, I'm going to try to analyse the room to see if my efforts are efficient... though, it already totally changed the acoustic feeling when I play there !
BEFORE :
Nothing ! Concrete floor with carpet, that's all !

AFTER :
Two superchunks in the corners, one big front panel, laminated floor, "air box" with air extractor (just upon the little red clock...), new carpets

Two ceiling panels

Each superchunk is made of 24 pieces of 60x67x90 cm stacked rockwool triangles, covered with fabric in front and a triangular shelve above

A rear trap, hanged under the bookshelve

Another rear trap, in the corner

Feel free to give any advice and critic about this, aren't we all life long learners ? after all ??

Your room looks like the inside of an igloo.

What is the wall/ceiling material? Cement?

Yes ! It's all stones and cement, all painted in white when I started to set my "music place" down here two years ago... Advantage : with 3 feet of stones and cement above my head, no neighbour can complain about the noise I can produce...

But you're right, it looks a bit like an igloo on the pictures, but it actually doesn't in the reality, I think it's the flashlight of the camera who makes it look whiter

yes, it's made of MDF, painted with satin black paint, dimensions are 60x60x30 in cm, with diagonal position of the speakers and 2 events to get rid of boxy sound, the little 15W valve Laney drives it really nice !!!stike

Colonel Blues: It's a unique space that's for sure. I don't think I've ever seen a basement space with arched ceiling like that. It must be an old building.

Did the space have a particular use in the past?

(Of course I'm in North America where we see a 100 year old building and go "wow, that's a really old building" )

old?

I'm in Taiwan where we see a thirty year-old building and think it's really old.

Yes it's a very old house, built during the XIXth century, around 1870, I guess... I live in an historic town (Montmorency / north of Paris / France) where you can find many of them.
One of this kind (pict is from a local house selling agency) :
rehersal / live room pictures - before / after acoustic treatment-mansart01.jpg
This one is not mine (surprisingly, I haven't any pic of mine...), mine has one more level... but I own only the first level (and my basement, of course !), and three others family own the second, third and fourth levels (one level is around 100 sq meters (900 sq feet ?).
If I had chance (and money !!!) to entirely own such a big house, believe I would have kept a complete level to install my studio !!!

Ah... and in the past, these basements where designed to store and keep... WINE ! We're in France, man ! But when I bought it in year 2000, I only found dust and spiders down there...

I almost wondered if that was the use. Either a wine or root cellar.

Pretty cool really.

Cool room I like it. Does it sound harsh? Because of all the cement? Do you record drums there? Is there a separate control room or do you do everything in one room/
Thanks

No, my main problem wasn't mainly harshness, it was an awesome combfiltering effect ! you know, the one you can hear when you walk an speak in a tunnel ? dzwanggg ! many many early reflections, crazy ! So I treated the room following the good advices that I found here and there on this great forum, taking the time to do things well.

For the moment, this place is still a rehearsal room were we play guitars, bass and voices, no drums, never tried with a drummer inside (hope I will...), and it's already a pleasure to rehearse in a treated room, awesome difference !

For the future, I plan to connect this room (multipurpose snake should be ok...) to my current home studio (who is just the room upstairs !) to achieve tracking, and bring down my computer, control surface and monitors to acheive mixing in the treated basement... It's why my next "building session" will be a desk, intalled downstairs !!!

Long is the road, but nice is the walk...
