Thread Starter | Studio Doors... with windows
Hello! I am reading Rod's book for the third time and still modifying my studio plans. I'd like to get a better idea of door construction and available materials. I understand the concept of the super door, but adding glass seems a bit... sketchy. I've been in several Nashville studios that had super doors built of two doors attached to eachother (the inner slightly smaller all the way around), and both were 75% glass... great visability!! In one place they have two sliders with a 12" gap between them... How can these maintain the mass rules applied in conventional studio building? I'll need at least 5 super doors and I'd like to have maximum visibiliy. Building them myself is an option, but the ones I saw look like somebody bought 2 doors and put them together with gasketing and such... Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas on the subject? Thanks in advance!!! |

You should try to match the glass' transmission loss to the rest of the door (or wall surrounding the door) - and that may be the hardest part to do. Remember most doors perform quite well in their standard form, but it's the seals that makes them underperform. Herwig

Cool! I understand that you have to equal the wall mass in glass mass, but I still don't understand how those double door assemblies can apply to this rule! I'd sure love to find and use one of those deals if it truly works, but if it doesn't then I'll DIY. Thanks! |
