Thread Starter | FuzzMeasure of SpectraFoo?
I want to do some room analysis of my home studio. I own a MAC OS9 copy of SpectraFoo (which I've never used) which I can upgrade to OSX SpectraFoo Standard for $150. Or, there's FuzzMeasure for the same price. Can I get the measurement data I need from SpectraFoo? Or is that simply not the right tool for the job? |

I never used Spectrafoo - does it have waterfall plots? That's an important part of analyzing room acoustics. --Ethan

No waterfall plots, but it seems to have every other measurement bell and whistle, including a hi-res spectrum analyzer and spectragram.

I'd suggest you get the Fuzzmeasure, Spectrafoo's more of a mixing tool. Fuzzmeasure is more of a room measurement acoustic treatment tool, and easy to use, really easy.

Hi, I'm thinking of getting fuzzmeasure too. But I may not have a proper mic. Would my tube Pearlman TM1 mic be adequate? Otherwise, there's still my old akd D3900 mic... |

Fuzz for this. It gives you waterfalls and reverb times. Foo is a great set of engineering tools, while fuzz is for room acoustics.

| Ethan checked out some affordable mics for measurement and posted some findings on his site. Have a look there. In my case, I use calibrated reference mics from B&K and ACO Pacific, and those are definitely not cheap. I haven't tried the affordable ones on Ethan's list, but for DIY room testing, you don't really need the crazy calibrated stuff. You can get in the ballpark with others. I wouldn't publish scientific results measured with them, but that's not the intent here.

Thanks, I just found out a buddy of mine has a mic listed on Ethan's website, so I'm all set! Now if somebody could point me out to a thread where it describes which rockwool is the best for basstraps and which the best for diffusors... |
