Best mic and best method for room testing

So I just finished fully treating a new room with my gik room kit and I have been listening to a few albums in the room. (albums I am familiar with) And am noticing my Adam A7s sound veryyyy hollow. Not sure if that is a good description or maybe I'm not used to this flat of a room, but what is the best mic to use to test the room and what is the best way to go about doing so? I have seen the video on Realtraps site. Can anyone get me started here?

Thanks

-Chris

Any of these programs will do a good job:

ETF, Windows, $150

FuzzMeasure, Mac, $150

Room EQ Wizard, Windows and Mac and Linux, Freeware

This article explains how I use ETF, but the principles apply to all such programs.

The only thing I don't understand is how you power these mics without 48v. I don't see any place where you listed which preamp you are using for these tests. Also in this Room EQ Wizard, I don't really understand the setup..Plug the mic directly into the soundcards line input? I run a digidesign HD rig. Do I set the macs default input to HD? Sorry but I am a tad confused here...

I used my little Mackie 1202 mixer.

You might be over-thinking this. You connect the microphone to your computer the same as you would for recording. And you playback from your computer the same as always. The only thing that changes is you're using the REW software instead of your DAW software. So REW plays the test sweep, and also records from the microphone.

Hi Ethan

I've enjoyed reading your posts over the years and wish this forum was around back when I started building my control room. Oh well, what's done is done and hopefully when I measure my control room there isn't too many problems.

Anyways, out of the microphones you listed on your site, the only one I have is the AKG C451 B reissue. Would this mic be adequate for measuring?

thx
Jason

Yes, that microphone is fine, and I have one too I use for room measuring. But you need an omni capsule for it.

Did a quick search but couldn't find too much on the omni capsule for the new c451B. Anyone know where I could find one?

My only other omni would be the 414ULS. Would this be alright for measuring or is it best to use a SDC?

I have a CK22 capsule that fits my old C451. No idea if they changed the threads etc.

For best results it really needs to be SDC omni. So buy the Nady for $40. You can also use it for recording music!

The music store in my area doesn't carry the Nady so the Behringer will have to do. Thx for your help Ethan.
