| Advice to make this room workable ! WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR STUDIO !! AND WHY IS IT IN THE KITCHEN? Hello .. I have a problem that I hope with your help will not be hard to fix. I am forced to do my final mixdowns before mastering at home and need to do some pretty heavy treatment to make this room workable. OK ... its not exactly in the kitchen, but then again, it sort of is. It's a pretty live room and if you look at the pictures you will immediately see why. Tile floor - (ok ... a good heavy rug here is about all I can think of.) Then there is this funky ceiling. It has arches along the length of the room and I have no idea if that makes it easier or harder to work with ( I imagine harder). The room dimensions are roughly 5 meters X 7 3/4 meters for the main area ( livingroom and kitchen) and another area by the stairs that is 2 1/2 x 2 3/4 meters ( if you measure to the very back wall - not where the door to the basement is.) The ceiling is 3 meters. Right now my gear is not where needs to be. I know this. The monitors are not even connected, and will be pulled away from the corners. I am just wondering if this can be done with out too many hard to resolve issues. Thanks ahead of time - Bhang

| From what I can tell from looking at the pictures you will want to face the wall in the first picture (the short wall) and start by sitting 38% (this is where your ears should be) of the room length. Put as much bass trapping in as many of the corners as possible and treat early reflection points on side walls and ceiling. See the following page for set up ideas GIK Acoustics: Room Setup Glenn

| Thanks Glenn. That is how I intended to set up the equipment. The diagram helps a lot too. So you don't think the ceiling will be problematic as long as I can get a panel in the right locations?

| I think if you cover the ceiling in the reflection point you should be good to go. Glenn

| I have another question regarding the layout for treatment. The front wall ( the one my studio will be facing) is also set up for a beamer. Would I be able to make a single large diffusor (which would also serve as a screen) instead of the two in the diagram? I also will have trouble putting diffusors or traps in the back of the room due to the kitchen and one side of the room due to a large doorway and two windows. I know that the placement of the treatment is vital, but what do I do when I can not put treatment there. Once again thanks for the help.
