Video Monitors instead of windows?

Hello,

I have an upstairs control room and a downstairs studio.

Has anyone used video monitors and cameras for communication?

I was thinking of a couple of LCD tvs but they are not cheap.

Computer monitors are cheaper but how do you get the signal in?

tigerdirect.ca has some pretty good prices and they are in Canada.

Has anyone done this? Advice?

Thanks
Best,

I had this organized for my studio which had an upstairs live room.

2 x Apple LCD monitors for my DAW - (pro tools)
1 x monitor for the edit window
1 x monitor for the mixer window

The 2nd monitor had a switch on the side that switched it over to S Video input. I fed the S Video signal from a camera upstairs to it.

So I would switch between the PT mixer and the live area, (I didnt need to see the mixer page in theory as I was using a ProControl control surface) of course I could use just one screen for PT and the other for the live room if I liked.

I also had an intercom phone between the two rooms and a talkback speaker and room mic in the live room to communicate with people not wearing headphones.

It really worked great.

It was a cheapo wide angle camera

So perhaps try to find monitors that you can use with your DAW that also have S Video inputs for video.

What a good idea to switch between the two.

I have been looking at lcd tvs and Monitors seem so much cheaper. The only problem is hooking a camera up to a monitor without a computer.

Hmmm.... I may have to break down and buy a lcd tv.

Has anyone else done anything similiar?
