Where to buy wooden studio furniture in NYC? (Or online if it's really excellent...)

I need a desk for studio use.

Some of the Studio RTA and Quiklok stuff looks great in the functional sense, but I don't want to buy particle board. Everything I've seen is either particle board or priced up there with the Argosy stuff. Even Middle Atlantic is using MDF, at least for the items I found otherwise interesting. Isn't there a middle ground? Real wood, second tier for screen and monitors, not absurdly wide, maybe even with rack rails, for a price that's less than my rent?

I'm in New York City and would like to see the stuff in person before I buy it, but if it looks brilliant enough on paper/screen then I suppose my credit card could be lured from my pocket anyway.

Custom built furniture

There's a guy who sometimes advertises in nyc's craigslist. He comes and takes measurements and then builds custom racks and console tables. I didn't end up buying a new rack, but his prices were quite reasonable and a super nice guy.
I'm sure you could find him again on craigslist. i think he posts once a week or so.
