Thread Starter | New Studio Construction - New Products?
After almost 6 successful years, I'm moving my studio into the woods in Pennsylvania. My wife and I purchased some property and I have a separate building there exclusively for studio use. It's been awhile since I've done studio construction and was just wondering if there are any new products that I should be aware of? I'm very much a DIY person - if I can make it almost as good-for a lot less, I'm there. Mainly interested in: acoustical treatment, both within the room and also to block outside sound, wiring, ceiling treatment. The building is raised, so I'll be able to run cable between rooms outside the building - in conduit to protect it from biting things. The control room will be about 28'x20'x12' and the studio about 18'x20'x12'. I do mostly vo and narration work for TV and radio, however with this new facility, I might venture back to the musical roots as well. It's in the woods far from any traffic, even air traffic, so treatment should be minimal. I'll start a complete construction thread when I get started. Thanks for any tips. 'Frank |

For transmittion control, there is Quiet Rock(sp) drywall. Not that new, but a good starting place. Z. |

i would use several sheets of plain old sheetrock search a company called vico - if they still exist, they make a great neoprene hockey puck product that is great for de-coupling wooden structures be well - jack |

There's a (reasonably) new book should read cover-to-cover before building: "Home Recording Studio: Build It Like The Pros" by Rod Gervais. Amazon.com: Home Recording Studio: Build it Like the Pros: Rod Gervais: Books Pay close attention, he gives proper construction techniques for isolation, as well as some advice about acoustic treatment.
