| Rectangular Room, 1:0.95:2:44, Facing Window Hi Guys, Still owe you all a huge thank you and some measurements for the help with the other Studio: Mixing Room, Production Room, Slanted Ceiling I'm building a 2nd one, this time it's a rectangular shaped room with 250(H)x240(W)x610(L) measurements. I did a quick check using room modes calc. I think the dachshund shaped room has an advantage with rear-front reflections, but that's just a guess. Here are some pics: (facing window) ![]() (facing door&bookshelf) ![]() Perhaps you've noticed something vaguely resembling a broadband absorber in the first pic, ![]() that's the misshaped prototype of 10 to come. I'll make a seperate topic about em' sometime later ![]() Some preliminary questions that I consider most important for now. The double window taking the entire wall is facing the street, is it a better idea to fire "away" from the window or "at" the window? Theoretically, if the window envelopes 70% of the wall wouldn't the bass frequencies just cut through the glass and never come back (of course provided the corners are treated as well) as opposed to facing some structural wall that will reflect a lot back? 2nd: as you will see from the pictures below, the margins to the sides of both windows only allow for a 30cm(left) and 40cm(right) superchunk or panel trap, actually even less than that below the radiator as it cuts into that area, but I could construct a superchunk or panel on an extension above the radiator. Is that sufficient in any way? ![]() Thanks very very much in advance!!! ![]() |

| Lives for gear | Rather than small superchunks, I'd go with panels that are 2' wide and 4" thick, installed so that they are straddling the corner as best you can. You won't get a 45 degree angle, just put one end of the panel up against the window and the other end along the side walls. I agree, you should face the window.

| Thank you very much for the info guys. I've spent the last couple of days building traps. I will go with a 100cm x 62,5cm (10cm thick) face for the corner traps and 62,5cm x 50cm (10cm thick) for the upper window corners where 2 walls and ceiling meet. Plus 4 100cm x 62,5cm absorbers to each side from my listening position, A foam diffuser glued to the ceiling RFZ (no way to mount a cloud, unfortunately the walls are crumbling Brick with hard stone underneath, very unpleasant to drill and not possible due to rent-contract). I just want that area to be really dead. Then 62,5cm x 50cm on the rear ceiling corners and 3 - 100cm x 62,5cm (10cm thick) on that IKEA shelf where ceiling and rear wall meet. This should smoothen the room out I guess. Then I can take measurements and post RTA60 graphs. Would you recommend mounting another trap on the rear door (since the door IS the corner in a way)? effectively: 13 full size broadband traps and 4 half-size Corner Traps. Pics and measurements to follow. ![]() |

| Just a quick update - first night of installation. 10 traps, 1 corner trap and double cloud all 4" rigid-rockwool. I've also built custom height stands with a 30° toe-in, 80lbs of mini-pebbles go in tomorrow ![]() One question - on one of the pics you'll see a full-size absorber right next to the speaker stand, is that beneficial (in terms of circular bass-radiation) or could I keep that spot bare-wall? Tomorrow is the first day of measurements.. Looking fwd. to see what's left to correct. Without connecting the speakers, upon entering you can allready tell the room is drrrrry.. |

| as promised some measurements using FuzzMeasure for full bandwidth and RoomWizard for lowFreq. Big dip at 110, major boost accentuated at 53 and some hills around 130. Digging on (probably gonna use the space above the back wall bookshelf for either quarter wavelength massive traps or Port resonators tuned at problem freqs). No more room for panels ![]() |
