Working Desk + Monitor positioning

hi,

as all of you, i want to treat my bedroom studio to get a little better acoustics, i'll install basstraps and absorbers and whatnot,
but i don't know yet, WHERE i should put my workspace with desk, computer, monitors etc. to get the best results.

i know, 38% into the room should be my listening position,
but i have 2 possible positions for me and my monitors.
my room's measurements are roughly 17,4'*17' and it looks like that:

unfortunately i can't move the bed, since this is the only place it fits in and i don't want to put it next to the windows, so i have 2 choices:
in the 4,96' space between the 2 windows or in the middle of the plain wall on the right.
which one would be the better choice, acoustically?

one more question:
i'll use yamaha hs80m monitors, so i think i'll have to put a bass trap behind them, since they have their bassport on the rear panel, am i right?

thanks for your input!

cheers, div

I'd set up between those windows, but I'd cover both alcoves with heavy curtains or wood blinds so they don't produce anything funky acoustically. I think this orientation gives you the best room symmetry and leaves you with more options in terms of where you can put panels.

If you have any questions about where to put what kind of panels, take a look at this link: http://www.gikacoustics.com/room_setup.php

thank you, i think this will also be a little nicer lookwise...

i already have pretty thick curtains, so that won't be a problem, i guess.

thanks, i already know the link

i also know where to put the basstraps (as many corners as possible) and how to kill early reflections, but i still didn't find anything useful about traps behind rear-ported monitors ;)

Bass traps behind the monitors can be useful in controlling SBIR, but in general we find that absorption on the front wall is not necessary. For more detail on this, see RealTraps - Front Wall Absorption

In general, treating the corners and the rear wall are more important than putting traps behind the speakers, unless your speakers are VERY close to the wall.

I'd agree with jwl there...add them later if you need them, but take care of the meat and potatoes stuff first.
