best place for desk

Hi this is the third studio I've built, but this one has a funny shape. The room is long and thin. So I was wondering the best place for the desk. Natuarally I want to put it at position desk 1, but that wont leave much room behind the monitors for reflection problems. Would that be an issue or is desk 2 a better place for it. Here is a rough plan, hope it makes sense.

Desk 2, or some variation of that. If you can put your head 38% of the way into the room you'll avoid some room mode trouble. If you do it the other way you'll need to treat the bejeebus out of the back wall and corners. Of course, you'll probably have to do that anyway, but you'll get better results the other way.

Agreed, go with Desk 2, though there are complications either way. Desk 2 out from the front wall 38% would be better, as Frank says. You will need to take care of your first-reflection points, which might be complicated a bit by the window being on your left side. You can use a stand if need be.

cool thats what I figured but what about the window to the left of me. Wont that mess everything up. Or should I consider moving that back further to the rear wall away from the toilet.

Oh and one more thing. I will double skin the wall with brick then rockwool, but what about this green glue I've never used it, is it good and worth the money.

It was hard to tell by the drawing, but if it was at all accurate the window shouldn't interfere with at least the fist reflection point. Your only other option is to go with desk position 1, which comes along with other serious compromises. All things considered desk position 2 is still the way to go.

If we're talking about brick, rockwool and green glue, then the topic is soundproofing...? Are you working on preventing transmission into the live room?

I'm more concerned about sound getting out of the live room. Previous studios I.ve built have'nt needed that much proofing as they have been in more industrial areas, but this building is about 60metres from the back of houses so I need as little noise as possible coming from the live room.

In that case, what you're suggesting isn't even close to what will be necessary assuming that you'll be recording drums and everything else in there. It's a good start, but more layering and mass will be required.

The topic is way too detailed to cover in a thread. I'd suggest you go check out John Sayers forum...tons of information there. Rod Gervais has a book entitled "Build it Like the Pros" that will be helpful as well.
