My Room Sucks..

Hey guys, I am new here so please excuse me for my ignorance..I have been reading these forumes for a while and I need help with my room..It is very strange.. There are doors at every corner except 1 that won't allow me to mount bass traps.. So I was trying to find out if I could make the bass traps free standing and just place them when I need to, or if I need to figure something else out.. Also, do I need to cover the corners completely floor to celing with bass traps? just curious.. Any help would be Appriciated..

You can also straddle ceiling to wall or floor to wall corners is need be. see the following panel straddling upper ceiling to wall corner.

The more area you cover the better, but in your case you can't so just do the best you can.

Thanks, My room is pretty weird. I'll try to post some pictures later and see what you might suggest once I get that far.. Right now I just finished painting and am getting ready to build my traps and wall panels..

Bass traps

Just curious, do the traps have to be 24 inces accross to be affective or could I go with a 12 inch trap in the corners of my room.. I think I could manage a 1ft trap in each corner..What do you think?

You can build 12" traps, but they won't perform nearly as well. Remember, bass trapping is as much about coverage area as it is about individual trap performance.

Perhaps you could combine the 2 approaches, ie, build 12" wide traps permanently in the corners, and also have 24" panels on stands in front of those?

pretty good idea, but also pretty expensive for the payoff. I would just straddle the ones on stands then start to work on ceiling to wall corners..

Bass Traps..

So, do you guys think that maybe I should build 1 4inch thick 2ftx4ft trap for each corner and suppliment with celing traps in the corners or just go floor to celing 4inch 2ft wide traps? I can still suppliment with celing traps as well.. Also, as far as broadband panels go, I was going to use 2inch 8lbs mineral wool. Do you guys have any ideas on how to mount them.. I was thinking about building boxes that are like 4inches deep and using 2 inch wool so there would be about a 2inch dead space behind them.. That way I could mount them directly to the wall with l-brackets flush..Thanks..

You have the right idea.

If you can, go floor-to-ceiling in the wall/wall corners, AND cover as many wall/ceiling corners as you can. If it's either/or, then I'd probably go wall-to-ceiling in the corners for now, because if you do this in all 4 corners then all 8 trihedral corners in the room will be covered. You can always add the wall/ceiling corners down the road.

My Room sucks..

Thats cool, I will do that..There is some room to add celing traps as well.. I will add some there as well. I just finished building my window boxes and filling them with 8lb Mineral board and just the 2 panels have already made a huge differance in the sound of the room.. I can't wait to do the rest of my panels and traps.. I'm excited.. I will post pictures of before and after when I am done..Thanks guys!!!
