Monitor Positioning in room

I have read Ethan's RealTraps - How To Set Up a Room article many times, but just now I noticed something that puts a question mark above my head.

In the article it says

Quote:
In all rectangular rooms the bass response is most lacking at the halfway points - halfway between the front and rear walls, halfway between the left and right sides, and halfway between the floor and ceiling. Therefore, the worst place to sit is exactly halfway back in the room, with your ears halfway between the floor and ceiling, or halfway between the left and right walls. You shouldn't put loudspeakers in those places either
So, please correct me if I misunderstand this, ideally I would place the loudspeakers using left-right symmetry, but in doing so am I not automatically going to sit halfway between the left and right wall, as displayed below (green chair)?

After thinking this through some more, I figured that moving a couple inches left or right should solve this, and from waht I remember from Ethan's videos, a couple inches can make a HUGE difference...

Still, if i'm missing the obvious, feel free to point it out to me

Yes, exactly. Also, the worst bass null is halfway for the front-to-back dimension. The height and width halfway points may not be quite as damaging.

HI ETHAN!

Thanks so much for your valuable info!

I have few questions:

It is clear the listening position at 38% of the lenght of the room.

1- but where the speakers have to be placed??? I mean in porcentage to the lenght of the room as you explained to the listening position?

2-how far the speakers from each other (tweeters)

3- The monitors should haveany specific angle ?

Thanks so much!

yes, I can confirm the bass null, I had fun for a couple of minutes with this. It's really amazing, I could literally step out of this wall of sound, and a couple steps forward or back took me right back into the bass. I'm going to try and figure out the math of why this happens (read: i'll google it )

It's right there in the drawing above, and explained further in the Room Setup article linked above. You move the speakers along the axes as shown while measuring.

what would you say is lesser of these two evils ?

1) Placing the speakers in the correct position according to the room specification, BUT somewhat behind 2 LCD screens ?

2) Placing the monitors a bit off compared to the room specifications, but with free sight towards the ear of the listener ?

I went for number 2...

Yes, you do not want LCD screens or anything else between the speakers and your ears.
