| Most Helpful Books on small studio construction Hello All- This forum is so incredibly helpful answering the myriad of questions that come up when designing and building a studio, and has been really inspiring to me in my goal of building my own. I'm wondering what books has been the most helpful to you guys along the way for this stuff? I have the Yamaha Sound Reinforcement book and "How to Build a Small Budget Recording Studio from Scratch", which I feel like cover general acoustics questions pretty well, but don't really delve into many construction details or any real world possible money savers; Which is more what I'm looking for... |

| talk to someone who has done it. find out if vico still exists in nyc - they sell the perfect sheets of neoprene hockey pucks - these hockey pucks enable you to build structures....... vico had no internet presence 6 or 7 years ago...... i would ask someone who wants to build a studio "why?" many, many times why don't you work in a studio that already exists ? why don't you open a mexican restaurant ? this is a horrible business that is getting worse....... be well good luck - jack |

| Recording Studio Design - Newell (altough I think he is biased regarding his own semi-anechoic rooms and excludes the use of diffusers in control rooms and tracking rooms). Otherwise it is an excellent book ! Home Recording Studio (Build It Like The Pros) - Rod Gervais - this is a very easy reading and well written book that also deals with HVAC and electricity in studios. I do think this is an excellent book to start on the small room acoustics subject. The only thing I actually don't like much is the room treatment chapter due to inclusion (almost promotion/catalogue) of products from Auralex/ETF/etc.. (ops sorry Rod : ) basically because a) I don't like ETF or Auralex b) I think it would be enough to list different brand names in the market. For instance RPG was not included in Rod's book.. maybe too expensive ? :-)Handbook of Acoustics - Everest A classical book regarding room acoustics !(apart from not having formulas in the metric system!)
