My studio space. Adice needed please.

Hi folks, This is my first post on GS. I'm hoping you guys might be able to help me with the layout for my project studio.

My room is 18 1/2' x 13 1/2'.
The 2 windows on the short wall are 1 1/2' feet off the floor.
The 1 window on the side wall is 3' off the floor.
The floor is carpeted

This "-------" shows the ceiling perimeter. The ceiling is 8' high, but the 2 longer side walls go up 5' then angle in.

Righ now I'm setup in the corner (bottom right on the pic) due to space, but I'm pretty sure that's the worst place for me.

Also, I have 67 1' square 2'' foam acoustic tiles that I have attached to the walls to get rid of the "zing". If you have an idea where I should put these, any advice would be appreciated.

Here is a link to my studio page The Music Room
Thanks,
Chris

You'll likely get the best results setting the desk facing the top of your sketch.

As for the foam, well, it's something but just understand that it's pretty useless below 500Hz or even a little higher. In that room, you're going to need to hit the corners with thick, broadband absorbtion and also likely the ceiling (flat part) and on the chimney face.

The foam will likely be best at your side wall reflection points and also scattered on the angled ceiling areas.

Do you mean set up just in front of the wall with the two big windows (each window is about 2 1/2' wide x 5' high).

I thought I was supposed to have foam on the walls behind my speakers? Maybe I'm wrong though?

Thanks,
Chris

All rooms need:

* Broadband (not tuned) bass traps straddling as many corners as you can manage, including the wall-ceiling corners. More bass traps on the rear wall behind helps even further. You simply cannot have too much bass trapping. Real bass trapping, that is - thin foam and thin fiberglass don't work to a low enough frequency.

* Mid/high frequency absorption at the first reflection points on the side walls and ceiling.

* Some additional amount of mid/high absorption and/or diffusion on any large areas of bare parallel surfaces, such as opposing walls or the ceiling if the floor is reflective. Diffusion on the rear wall behind you is also useful in larger rooms.

from the little i know, what ethan says is pretty on. also, maybe consider moving the monitoring area more towards the center of the room.

the rear wall reflection is probably going to be right around the area when early reflections become echos...diffusing might be good in that case.

your modes will roughly be about 30.5 Hz, 41.8 Hz for length and width. not sure about height since it changes depending on location, but i doin't think it'll be any lower than 40.
