Advice on studio design wanted!

Hi everyone,

Im in the process of designing my new studio. I have uploaded a sketch I made today and would like to get some opinions from you guys..

- What do you guys think of the current shapes of the rooms?
- On te right side of the control room Id like to make a production setup, do you think this would the stereo image in a bad way since the side walls arent symetric?

thnx for the help!

Regards,

Rick

Rick,

The shapes are okay, but without dimensions it's impossible to give truly useful advice.

ok, here are the designs for so far... Some in dept advice from you guys would be really appreciated!

- Picture of the outside walls

- Detalied pic with description of isolation material

- Complete pictures including the acoustic treatment on the walls (rockwool on walls covered with fabric), diffusor etc.

What do you guys think of the shapes and dimensions of the rooms?

Im dealing with a low ceiling( 2,5 meter), do you guys think I should make the ceiling completely absorbing or just leave it a plaster ceiling( this would save some ceiling height_?

any other comments on this design would be really apreciated!

thnx in advance!

Rick

I can't read the dimensions, but if the ceiling is 2,5 meters I can imagine the rest from that. I prefer control rooms that are longer front to back than wide, but wide can work if the entire back wall is a really deep bass trap. Same for the live room, which is narrow with the walls close to the musicians and microphones. With enough treatment that can be fine though.

Hi Ethan,

thank you for your reply.

I am thinking about covering alsmost all walls with rockwool covered with fabric, more rockwool in the corners and at the back where the difussor is located for better basstraping. I have seen this in many major studios and I like the look of it. Is there a possibility that there will be to much absorption?

The dimensions for the control room are 4.18 x 5.94 , the dimension for the live room are 2,32 cm(width)( taken from the middle of the window) x 6.61 (length).
Do you think the odd shape of the live room is less then ideal? Same question for the control room since the side where the lounge is located will remain open. Could this give me any problems with the stereo imaging?

I still have the possibility of completely redesigning the plans since I really want to go with the most optimal lay out. Do you recommend this? The project will be kinda expensive for us to build so I rather to it good the first time

thnx in advance

Rick

It's impossible to have too much bass trapping, but you can probably have too much mid and high frequency absorption.

As for the room shape, if you mean the control room, it looks symmetrical so that's good.
