To demo or not to demo?

I have a closet (red square) in my control room that I've been planning on getting rid of to gain 2'5" of space and make the layout even the downside is that I'd loose storage. Now I'm wondering if I should just put a big armoire (blue square) next to the closet making the space seem smaller and just use more bass traps and gain storage. I know the room is small to begin with and the bigger the room the better the sound but will that 2'5" make a huge difference? How big of a role does the odd shape of the room with the closet play?
