| Cinderblock Wall 2 leafs? I posted this in the John Sayers forum too, but figured I'd see if anyone here has any great ideas. I'm going to be starting construction next week on my project studio in my garage/basement. My outer foundation walls are cinderblock that I'm guessing are hollow. If they are in fact hollow, would that be a 2 leaf wall? And if so, what type of wall should i build for the interior walls for isolation? Thanks |

| Hollow bricks and the likes, behave as a single leaf.

| Drastic: You post similar, but significantly different posts on different websites. You will get confusion with people not knowing what is going on on the other website. Please indicate on both websites which ONE you will continue this topic on. My response on the other thread, which obviously you did not like, prompted you to ask a similar question here. I agree totally with Eric that hollow blocks do not act as a double leaf. But that was not the question you asked on the other website. You have not described the entire wall assembly, nor how much isolation you need, so we can not even answer your single question knowing the big picture. Keep asking questions! The more you know, better your studio building will be. For the benefit of others, here is the link to the other thread. JLS Hollow block wall |

| Gear Head | sounds like a vote for single leaf... depending on your isolation needs, the most common approach is to build a framed interior wall with 3x layer of 5/8" drywall on a 2x6 frame with R13 insulation touching the drywall side. this leaves you with a nice air gap, a massive wall, and its damped by the insulation. on the ceiling - if its new joists on the new interior wall, or suspended hat channel on isolation clips, then interleave the mass layers and seal at each step. what does your studio designer tell you? |
