| Worth pursuing? I've finally decided to take a big step and get my own mix room. I'm in los angeles, and I'm trying to some commercial property that I could rent and make into a nice little mix place. I found an amazing place near downtown...5 rooms (all small) and two bathrooms. The biggest room is interesting. I kind of have my doubts about it being a mix room, but I thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone thought it could be heavily treated and turned into a viable mix room that is accurate and translates. The bulk of the room is essentially 18' by 18' 5" wide. The north wall faces the street and this is what I assume I would face. The ceiling starts at 8' there and gets up to 12' by the time it hits the south wall. However, 11'3" from the west, the south wall juts out 2' until it hits the east wall, making the room a bit irregular. There is also a big chimney on the west wall. It sticks out 2' and is 5' wide. It starts 8'5" back from the north wall. Let me know what you think. And if anyone knows of a place in Los Angeles (bonus points for the valley) that could be rented for 1500 or less a month and could be made a decent mix room with a couple thousand dollars worth of treatment, please let me know. Thanks, Danny |

| You could make the room work but 2 thinks strike me as not the best for a mixing room. 1) Symmetry is off in the room 2) It is pretty close to squ All of these things can be over come and worked with, but just keep in mind that it is going to take a lot of work. Cool looking place though. Glenn

| Lives for gear | I think you could definitely make it work with some room treatment. Glenn is right on both counts though; symmetry is off though this is most important from the listening position forward. The non-symmetry is behind you so it's not as critical. The near-square state of the room means you will definitely have some low end buildup, you will clearly need a lot of bass trapping in the room to flatten things out. The key will be to accomplish this without killing the ambience of the room. There are bass trap designs that accomplish this. Also, create a RFZ for your listening position, and I think you could make this room sound quite nice....

| Agreed. That room has a lot of possibilities. Yes, it's squarish but it has a lot of other things going for it that may offset the extra care needed to deal with that. Bryan
