Suggestions please - Room tuning consultants in LA??

Hi fellow sltterz...

I am currently upgrading my gear -> PT HD / Prism Dream and I want to get some help with sorting my room acoustics out....

Does anyone know of a specialist or consultant in LA who I could give a little (not much left now) of my heard earned cash to help figure out my listening environment?

Cheers

Is this a new room build or the room you are in? Most acoustic companies (like ours) not only sell the products, but help people from start to finish with room set up and acoustic placement. I can see the value in hiring someone if you are starting from scratch and plan on putting $30,000 into the build but just to treat the room, most companies can help you through email or phone.

I'd have to recommend Bob Hodas. He's the best.

I'm with Glenn on this. It's almost certain that you'll have to get bass traps and other treatment anyway, so you might as well take advantage of the free advice vendors like Glenn's company and my company provide.

On a related note, I need a studio-builder type in the LA-area who can do an acoustically designed door for me.

PM or email me: eric@spaceship.com

At least read the few articles he has on his site and will notice something VERY interesting...
I disagree with Ethan and Glenn on one point and that is being there and testing in the room first hand is something NO one can do from an email, and if you read what Bob Hodas states you will know why I say this.

I won't disagree too strongly, but it costs a lot more money to hire an acoustician. If someone has the budget to hire a pro like Bob Hodas, more power to them. I don't object! But as often as not, someone will have $2,000 or less - sometimes a lot less - and in that case they're much better off taking advantage of my expert advice which is free. This way their entire budget goes toward the treatment.

I also help people measure their own room. For $150 you can buy ETF (Windows) or FuzzMeasure (Mac), or get REW which is free. Most audiophile types don't have the gear or the know-how to measure their room. But people with home studios often have a small diaphragm condenser microphone and a computer connected to their system. Half an hour with me on the phone walking them through the procedure will get them very close to what they'd get if I were there in person.
