Anyone feel like a worldwide collaboration?

Ive been thinking about it for a while, just for fun. Many of us write very different music and im curious what would happen if a few of our musical tastes were thrown in a pot. We could start off with drums, someone could add bass and so forth. Or I could start with a guitar riff and someone adds drums or an obscure synth or something. Just go with it no limitations. Im on ableton myself but I guess we could just share WAV files? Sound fun!? This would be a cool little side project for me to have fun in inbetween the "serious" music im making all the time. For the record I listen to all types of music, but have a heavy stoner doom metal interest. Asides from that I love blues, punk, ambient, d n b, acoustic, the list is endless.

Count me in! For July, I'll be limited to my voice as I'll be away from all of my equipment, save a Shure X2U and a Prodipe TT1. If I'm feeling ambitious, I can record an upright piano I'm renting in mono with it, haha.

Evening! So I have something here for you all to have a listen to, just finished rendering it now.
Question is how can I attach it the post?
I can't seem to find any option to!

Well I found out how to to do it, but it's not working for me right now!
I'm in the middle of uploading it to my Soundcloud anyway. I just heard from someone in chat that allthough the codec they use alters the sound of the original for streaming negatively, when users download the file you get the original. Which kind of makes sense they are converting for use with their streaming code, can anyone verify that? Either way it will be up soon enough and I will link to it and allow downloads for anyone who wants to get involved and add something to it. It can also be re arranged. I think it would be pretty cool to get some live bass on it and possibly live drums!

Will link and explain shortly.

808 NES by frasermcgregor on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

Ok, so I was messing around with an 808 emulator and a Nintendo NES 8bit soundchip emulator and ended up with this.

I'm going to mold it into a track for myself adding more 8bit goodness and other parts, but I'm curious if anyone wants to add something to it?

I can rearrange it if needed.
About the track; 100bpm

Intro synth: C2,E2,G2,B1,G1--C2,E2,G2,A1,G1.

1st part of main synth: C1, E1, F1--C1,E1,G1.

2nd part: A#,A,G1 (The melody is actually G1,A#,A but the loop starts on A#)

Never done a track like this before, as I was saying just looking for a fun little project as I spend a lot of time in front of my pc and miss making music with other people and having fun with it!

Hi Brock! Yea I think everyone who is interested needs to be a bit more pro active and throw their hands in! If people have came back to the thread and listened to what I linked to and aren't liking it, they need to say something or post some musical ideas of their own!
If anyone wants to chip in with a drum track I can put some guitars over it and the next guy can play some lead or bass or electronic noise etc. I'm checking back and not seeing much! Soundcloud is pretty bad, the quality really isn't the same from in my DAW or rendered and playing in a Media Player. If it can be hosted elsewhere, either a site someone can recommend or space Brock is offering, either is great. Mucho appreciate another slut getting involved!

Hi eddie and I think people love to collab, great idea. I am def in a more broody rock vein than you, but its cool. I hope your idea sparks some sweet creativity. I wouldn't expect too many to be on this thread as its a holiday weekend here in Canada, and July 4 in the u.s. is coming up. Summer is dead for GS, but I am subscribed and would love a collab with someone in a pop rock vein ?? Cheers All and happy long weekend !!!

My favourite singers are layne Staley and Phil anselmo, I am more guitar driven than anything. I was just messing around with an 808 and decided to post it. I do have a stoner type of track I had started, but didn't get too far cus of not having a drum kit. Perhaps I should post the riff. Kind of like orange goblin, electric wizard, down type stuff.

Let's just throw up some ideas and see what sticks? I have something from a session the other day but I need to get it to an mp3. Whats everyone like ? More fast and punk? or mid tempo crunch with driving beat? Slower power track?

eddie guys

I always had this idea to make something work in a collaborative way.

I call it the “chain maker system”. This is how it works.

Say you have 5 people in the chain,
Each one makes something on there own, something simple nothing much even just a few bars, just one instrument though not keys and beat, just keys or just a beat.
then everyone mails their parts to the next in the email chain,
so we are now all working on 5 different ideas.
We add our part then email on again. And receive the next, until everyone has worked on all 5 tracks.
When this round is done we all collectively decide which one we like the most and then work on that one in more detail.
Might be a cool way to get something very random but good.
Or course this has to be carefully planed with the correct naming of files etc. it could get confusing otherwise.

Shite idea? Or good.
The reason I came up with this was to help generate or seed the birth of music that was truly collaborative without any one person having more input than the others, so it wouldn’t be anyone’s baby as such. Its an experiment, but who knows what it would sound like!

Cheers for the input Aaron. So I think we have enough people interested to get this started then! Lets say Brock puts up a guitar track? Then Limpy can lay down some drums? fretsforlife can put lead guitar down? Aaron on bass? I'm a singer foremost but I don't have my mic fixed yet, so anyone wanna offer up some vocals?? I could add something with vsts's. Or perhaps lyrics. It would be pretty cool if we ended up with a handful of us and a structured process and the project really found it's feet! When I get my mic fixed up I can add vocals like this fraser donald mcgregor | Free Music, Tour Dates, Photos, Videos if you listen to the slither cover and the rooster cover. Not to everyones taste mind! I'm not exactly happy with the recordings either but there ya go. It was a cheap Shure through a Fast track. Lets get this started!

If we get the idea rolling and form some kind of structure I think everyone who wants to be involved will have a place and input. I'm suggesting a path to get things going, and we can go from there!

Good idea about the mixing too. More people could get involved that are just into mixing and mastering, along with everyone else laying tracks who want to have a go at mixing and mastering it too.

how's rearranging fit into people's thinking? like, if someone has a great lyric but it needs a second A section to work, any thoughts about dropping in or moving parts?

Got my internet back today! eddie, the vocals are awesome man! You have this raspy baritone punch that is unique and I really dig it. I was wondering what it would sound like to add a harmony to it at times. Anyway, I checked out that 8 bit thing you had going but I couldn't figure out how to save it and open in Logic. I'm pretty new to SoundCloud. Am I missing something?

Frets! Glad your back in the game! Dud everything survive? Its cool you dug the vocals man. I'd love to have some Alice in chains- Jerry Cantrell harmony going on. No doubt. Well I think we should just go ahead and try and get started with the most active in the thread. So I'm sayin now, post something you who are reading this thread. Or be gone! Naysayer! AAaye!

On regards to the 8 bit, it should download as a wav. That you just drag n drop into a daw. Or import. But I was only messing around on that. If folks don't like it and want to add to it, of course that's cool.

Oh yeah man, everything is good, thank god! Hey what I meant with the sound cloud thing is, I can't figure out how to save your track as a wav file. When I right click it to download it saves it as a 35kb .html file. Is there a specific way you have to save it?
