Does it Sound 80's?

Hi
Just found this old recording I did years ago.
I was trying to do a Vince Clarke/Depeche Mode sort of thing.
It seems to have aliased when I uploaded it?
Reason for uploading
To give Someone a Laugh
Now posted a non aliased version further down the page

Was it made with akai cd3000 samples recorded into a sampling hack mode enabled juno 60.
Besides the aliasing it sounds good.. and I wouldn't have guessed what the sound sources where.

As requested

Heres another upload of it without the Aliasing?

I like it. It definitely has a bit of the pipeline vibe in the intro, but that first lead synth that comes in doesn't fit as much.

The drums sounds like a preset kit from Hypersonic, but I assume those sounds are a bunch of other places too.

Also, not enough cheesy reverb to be truly "modey"

Thumbs up Good job...

It is recorded very well... The bass pattern sounds in step with what they used...

Too funky for a Depeche Mode/Vince Clark production.

Content of the last one is good... but it sounds too digital.. I bet if it was put onto tape it would benefit alot from it.. and don't tell me you used a poly61
... actually listening back to it... it was taken from tape wasn't it..

Guess I like the song, but the synths are too schrill for my ears... even after tape.

This one hasn't been near any tape it was recorded on minidisk think re-eq-ing the whole mix then dumping it to reel to reel and back might make it better sounding?

Wouldn't even eq it.. sounds fine there, straight to tape... I did alot of experimentation on recording track to tape and back.. never liked the sound of any pre-eq'd stuff.. just hit the tape really hard @7.5ips.. Would have gone for 15ips... cept I had alot of bass heavy tracks which lost a slight bit of low freq energy at that speed...
If you want I can record this @ both speeds if I get a chance and share the track privately.. you can stick them onto soundcloud then yourself. you'll then know exactly what your *possibly soon to be puchased? revox will sound like.

I thought the music sounded sort of 80's but the synth sounds themselves don't.

I find a lot of 80's stuff used very soft sounds whereas modern stuff is much more in your face. I never knew how they did it but I recently plugged a Prophet'08 into an analogue delay and got that exact soft sound.

So, get an analogue delay. The Beheringer (yes, really) CC300 is really cheap and good and put on a load of spring reverb. Also, turn the sync sound down, it's way to harsh and forward for 80's music.

I used to have 2 analog delays a JHS and a Laney should have hung on to them.

Maybe I should try some other sounds on them I'll have to dig the Midi files out and try something different ?

So did anyone download any of them?
I used to do stuff like this all the time years ago. But things moved on, just came across an old minidisk with loads of stuff on. The two I posted just stuck out more than the others. Those of you that enjoyed them and left comments
Thanks!
