Calling Musicians, young and old!

Evening, all!
For a couple of years I've been doing a project, whereby I write a song every day on weekdays, and posted most of them on my soundcloud account

I recently put together an albums worth of songs from my 'dailyjams' between august 2010 and august 2011. All the songs have been handpicked for juiciness and polished to a lovely ripe sheen, and are ready for re-recording whenever I have the necessary resources.

All I need now is people to play the songs! Since the only credit I am really concerned about on this album is the writer and producer, I have decided to forego(spelling?) the traditional standpoint of playing all the instruments myself and I am appealing to other beautiful and talented musicians to put the audio down. I'll then be sending the tracks off to be mixed before attempting to get the album released on iTunes and Spotify.

So here is a link to the track listing and some demo recordings of the album tracks, and I'll do another post after this detailing what I still need, and if there's something there you fancy doing, then bagsy it!

Rob Rideout Music's sets on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

I'll be doing most of the communications and audio transfers by dropbox or email, so you won't have to travel up and down the country (or across the ocean!), all the work can usually be done in your own home. I'll be collecting DI tracks for bass and guitar and re-amping them myself, and in some cases MIDI files for drums and piano (but if you have facilities to record yourself, by all means, do!). If you have means of recording vocals, then let me know and you can do some wailing, too!

There's loads of styles available, so there should be something for everyone!

And if you're not interested, I'd still like to hear what you think of the tracks, so I can make some last minute changes before I get the final recordings done.

If you are interested, let me know and I'll do my best to get you on board!

I will need:

Guitars for:
Overtime
Time Makes Fools of Us All
Shut Up and Drive
Crossroads
The Bird that Never Flew
Wake Up
Attack, Attack

Bass for:
Overtime
Time Makes Fools of Us All
The Bird that Never Flew
Attack, Attack
I
Shut Up and Drive

Drums for:
Time Makes Fools of Us All
The Bird that Never Flew
Shut Up and Drive
Wake Up
Attack, Attack

Vocals for:
Time Makes Fools of Us All
The Bird that Never Flew
Attack, Attack
Shut up and Drive
I
Please Don't Let me Go

Synth/keys for:
The Bird that Never Flew
Crossroads
Shut up and Drive
Won't Take This Lying Down

Thankyou! Sorry about the ridiculously long post

Also, just a quick note,
This is the first thing of this kind I've done, so I'm REALLY not elitist in who I'm choosing. If you're looking to just have a dabble at some drums or something, then that's just fine, I'd still love to have you on board.

See you on the other side!

Rob

Haven't the time to listen to everything but...

A lot of gems... Very eclectic

May I make a suggestion for the song 'I'...

Think a bit abstract. Think N.E.R.D or the Godzilla soundtrack song... more rock hip hop/electro than straight ahead rock. The vocals more Rihanna/Santogold and sexy and the instrumental before the chorus would sound great with a rap voice like Nicki Minaj or Lykke Li. Harmonies in the chorus like on the song 'Gifted' from group NASA would take the song somewhere new and compelling IMHO. And some really heavy John Bonham/Travis Barker type drumming. HIT!

Time Makes Fools of Us All & Overtime are also really killer songs.

I think if you are personally going to make an album that is too eclectic it's a harder sell but as a songwriter looking to get songs covered then a broad spectrum is really an advantage. I think as a songwriter it's sometime important (not imperative) to have an artist in mind when trying to place a song.... But that's also what publishers are for.

Good luck... maybe I can sing something for you (when my damn tooth gets better).

thanks very much for the feedback

I'm completely re-hashing 'I' before I re-record it, but I was planning to make it more prog metal. I hadn't thought of trying a more R&B route, it could be interesting...

And I'm not starting collecting audio for it until march, so if you want you can get in on the action, hopefully your tooth will be feeling better by then! PM me your email address if you want some more details about vocal recording, looking forward to it :D

Also, in regards to 'selling' the album, I'm not so much putting it out to try and sell it, just want to get it online for a practice release. Just as a quick showcase of my songwriting. I never had an artist in mind to sing the songs, but all of them have a very specific influence from a single band: Time Makes Fools Of Us All: Sigur Ros, Please Don't Let Me Go: Owl City, I: Tool.

I understand what you are saying but if you hear the influences (very clear on 'Time Makes Fools of Us All'), then it sounds more like a copy and not inspired by... Music is very interesting right now because there is so much mixing and matching where the influences are not so clear but create interesting hybrids... N.E.R.D were very good at that for a while. The whole R&B scene has become an interesting mix of house and techno music and bands like Linkin Park and Korn are also mixing in elements of electronic music (of all persuasions) but the direct influences are difficult to hear. You are obviously a very talented songwriter already who has a good grasp of melodies, hook lines and choruses so I would suggest not staying so clearly in the genre that your influences/inspiration come from as it may dilute the end effect... just my 2 cents

Very happy to sing on something... looking forward to it

Good luck... Regards K

Thanks very much, it means a lot to have some feedback, because I've been doing this blind for a while. Those particular songs are from quite early on in my songwriting career (Then again, hopefully, I'm still quite early on now!) and I think I've evolved past that a bit. I've tried to do more fusion based stuff recently, so hopefully next year's compilation album will have more sophisticated ideas

Which is the synth used in the beginning of Please don't let me go?Is there some kind of arpegiator?I'll take a listen and see if I can fit somewhere.

It was basically a moog synth plugin with a little bit of distortion and portamento that I did in logic. And no it's not arpeggiated, just played badly and quantized :P

I already have someone doing all the synths and production on Please Don't Let Me Go, though, sorry. If you want to do vocals, I'm still looking for someone to do that?
