....I'd love to hear that piano more up front. Also kept wanting the percussion instruments to shake me a little more.
Thanks for the feedback, Unclenny! I was really unhappy with the percussion overall, so I completely overthrew it, removing the rock beats and putting in a few of what I hope are more effective symphonic hits. Did some other editing and emphasized the piano a bit more. Would love to hear if you think if it's better.
thanks!
This has some real possibilities, I like it a lot, I would automate the echo a bit more, automate "the input" and "the timing" and you could really get more out of less of it. Dynamics are excellent. Love the tune too.
Keep up the good work, and I was there at the slide. Awesome.

I won't use pitch correcting software. I use "coaching" maybe you've heard of it. It keeps working even when you don't have it on.

this song is part of a larger project wherein i'm trying to have one finished song a day.
i write and record everything on the fly, then if time permits, i do a quick mix.
the idea is simple: write it, record it, and mix it in one hour. all of it.
the delay is a bit wet in some areas, but the feeling was there and it came together quickly.
once i've nailed down which songs will make the album, i'll go in and mix with fresh ears.
thanks for the critique memphis and hopefully, more tracks to come.

I really like this emk. Has a definite Hans Zimmer vibe to it, which in my book can't be bad... Has a nice balance of laid-back & the dramatic. I could easily see this developed into a film score.
Here's a track off my soon-to-be-released album of sad ballads, the working title of which was "Music to slash wrists by"
The band kicks-in around 3:00...
Thanks for listening, Mike
Well, I died from self inflicted wounds before the third verse, spot on!
I think the melody is rather reminiscent of a current tune. To me that means you'll have to listen to "that song" and change the melody line and the way the piano is playing the same notes so that it isn't confusing to listeners.
I think the band should come in earlier, like by the second verse and the choruses need to be built more and delineated as choruses more.
Like myself, you can pull off almost everything on this but, I'd hire the best drummer you can find to play the drums, even if you have to search beyond the border. Whatever border that may be.

Thanks for your comments memphis - I'll bear them in mind. I'm not though exactly sure what you're referring to by "that song?" I do know though that "this song" was written, a demo recorded, and registered via my publisher 2-3 years ago...

Great song Sean and I mean damn great. The hell with trying to get cuts on your stuff, keep em for yourself, Brother. You are an artist if there ever was one. Hang tough down there, timing is everything. I'm gonna PM you.
Couldn't figure out how to embed it like everyone else, but there's the link. I did all the writing, performing, mixing etc myself, so I'd appreciate all feedback on any aspect of it, because I know I'm not great, and would like to become better This is my first release, and it's out on iTunes, amazon, and zune if anyone likes it a $1's worth lol. Thanks for listening!

take out the "*" and it should work.
don't use the embed code, just the link.
nice song by the way.
you took an acoustic approach which works well, but the drums sound a bit robotic.
the drums stand out because they're roominess contrasts the very intimate sound of your voice and the guitars.
also, if you're able to play the samples in real time, you can add a lot of natural vibe.
you can always cut up loops too, but i find the latter to be more time consuming.
all in all, you have a knack for arranging and building a complete song.
Awesome song and performance, Steve. You might try pitching some of these tunes to TV and movie opportunities. All your music sets a particular tone that would add to a scene.
Tell you what, though....I was riding that train for a while and started trying to write from that perspective. This tune was an effort to just back up and write from within.
Kind of got me to wondering.......
We'll just see where the road goes.
"Special thanks to STEVE GLEASON......for making me who I am today" Leonard Scaper
Unclenny, Shining is very heartfelt, warm, and wonderfully performed.
I started (and even posted it here) this piece awhile back, and revisited it recently. Hopefully I've improved it, and would love any constructive criticism.

It's a rainy afternoon here on the East Coast of the USA.
I just listened to this piece with my Ultrasones on while I stared out the studio window and let it take me to all of the places that you knew it would when you composed it and performed it.
