Thread Starter | How are you going to slut out in 2004 - your GSI
Sometimes it's all about the gear, and getting a healthy GSI [ gear per square inch ] in your studio. So, what are you guys going do to in 2004 to further strengthen the GSI in your studio?

My plan: Soundelux u195 Shure sm7 Senn 441 Great River me2-nv or Phoenix DRS-2 Sytek four channel pre LynxTwo And some RealTraps. Or maybe an API thing and a few units for it. Then I can add to it as I get the money. |

Cranesong Spider Chandler TG-1 Line 6 echo, mod and filter pro Pro Tools HD upgrade Maybe some OSA and API pre's a pair of Coles DW Fearn VT-1 manley Vari Mu Wunder Audio PEQ-1 ???? On top of that I'm moving everything back to roadcases. Wood racks look great but it's increasingly difficult to work in other rooms without my stuff and it's definitely a hassle to unrack the pieces I need. Rob |

I hope to buy: ADAM s3a's, AEA r84, API 3124 m+, pair v72 in the new year. Sometime in 04 a new board to replace the ghost, hopefully 16 channels, smaller, better sounding (not that I can really complain about the sound of the ghost). Possibly buy an api 2500. Frost |

Definitely a Stephen Paul mic. Probably a Kurzweil Rumour. Maybe a Chandler preamp (the Abbey Road one)? Maybe a Pendulum Quartet Merc. Edition? Lots more work on my tracking and control room acoustics! Someday some mics from Schoeps or DPA. And hopefully that input transnformer from Denmark that will get my Tube Tech MP1a back up and running. (I've been waiting for two months for it to be shipped!!!) |

I could see getting another Pendulum Quartet, definitely a high end mic or two. But I could just as easily totally liquidate my gear and cut an album in a real studio =P |

Single-channel Pendulum pre 6a. ... a good hardware compressor 7. TC Electronics Powercore FireWire 7a. ...or a UAD-1 7b. Waves software 7c. Spectrasonics Stylus 8. Millennia TD-1 Direct Box 8a. Groove Tubes Ditto Direct Box 9. Pair of Adam S3A (and stands) 10. SansAmp 11. Sell Pod XT and get a Pod XT Pro 12. Mac G5 (late summer) 13. Distressor 14. Get Fender Bandmaster amp tuned up. ...that oughta do it. ![]() $25,570(USD) give or take a few slutz-bucks. |

Oh yeah, and: Neotek series 1 RNC RNP Speck EQ Kurzweil Rumour Soundelux U195 Josephson C42s. Happy new year, and please don't mention the "bottom half" of the list to my wife! |

What the hell is a dfegad Line 666 pedal doing in the same post as a Cranesong Spider and TG-1?!? Heresey! tutt Those things are made of modular poo and should not be purchased under any circumstances! They break or fritz out on half the people who buy 'em. Like me. ![]() They sound "OK", but they're actually overpriced considering Kurzweil has 2 fully stereo units that eat the Delay modeler (Rumour) and mod/filter modelers (Mangler) for breakfast for a little more. The quality of the fx is no comparison and the Kurzweils have A/D's you could use for tracking! Another great option is the Studio Electronics line of fx pedals. Their filter pedal is amazing - there is still no digital equivalent of a really good analog filter - let me know if you find one. | |

4-8 Mini Traps, for sure. JH24 possibly (wanna buy an M79?) Ribbon mics Mangler Monitors? Compressors? Also, I may be expanding and building a new Control Room, and if I do that'll kill the gear fund, but the Mini Traps stay until the new CR is done.

I'm making a resolution to fill out my currently 20% occupied 10-space space cavity after the 2 CX-1's just doesn't look right. Oh yeah, and a new foundation for my house.
