hmm... this of course isn't a fair poll, considering the price difference between the two...

Don't worry about a poll - listen to them, choose the one that you think will be more immediately useful. The next time you have money, buy the other. This stuff IS easy - except for the getting the more money part...

My first encounter with the Chandler comp.

Own neither. haven´t tried em except a couple of minutes with the 6176? (the preamp/1176combo).
Anyway, a while ago I visited a friend during a mix session. Remember that the mix engineer turned around for the fx rack and all of a sudden something very well sounding happened.
Probably had that stupid smile on my face that I always tend to have when a great musician/singer starts to do their thing when I asked him what happend, he pointed towards the Chandler and told me he used it as a sub compressor for the drums.
Phat!!!
I want one, but can probably not afford/justify it for a while.

this is very true.

I'm definitely leaning towards the chandler, based on the compressors I already own. but I'm sort of in awe at how expensive it is. I mean, it's do-able. but I could also put a down payment on a jaguar for that kind of nickel!

I guess I'd just like to see what everyone's initial reaction is. I'm sure there isn't a wrong choice.

a lot different than voting for a president.

Don’t forget to factor the million’s of great records made with 1176’s into your poll.

You also can't foget to factor in the millions of BAD records made with 1176's.

Just trying to keep a fair and balanced outlook...

It's basically the same as two non modded Distressors, and people buy those up like eggs and bread. I'd like to see a mono version in the future as well.

Holy crap! The price of distressors sure has shot up since I last priced them a year or so ago. At that time a non-British mod was going for between $1200 and $1300 dollars new (per channel). That's the biggest price increase on an unchanged piece of gear I've seen since the Manley SLAM!
