Amazing! but seems that there is a big empty space for a great DAW controller.

if you go to Euphonix you need 16K ...Digidesign is the only company put their hands on ia better way....but works only with PT.

Nothing really more pro around? can not believe it!

Yeah, I'm kind of surprised this market hasn't been tapped more.

Mackie MCU with 2 extenders sounds like the best bet for anyone not running pro tools.

Any other options for PT besides the Command 8 or control 24? I like the MCU but have heard is doesn't interface well with PT...

Why would you not choose the Control 24 (used anyhow) in that price range for PT? It's...made for it.

I don't use it or PT but am curious as to why you would not consider something made by Digi to work with PT.

I wish somebody would make something with the features of the Control24 for "everybody ELSE"...! Features wise it's got everything I would actually want all in one.

well, you can't expand the Command 8 and I don't quite have the room for the Control 24....I think a MCU and one expander would be fine for me, but again, heard there's lots of problems with automation among other things with PT.

What's a guy to do? Mix ITB forever? lol...

That Mixed Logic unit has always intrigued me, too.

I agree there's a bit of a hole in the "mid-range" DAW controller market, but I think it's perhaps because there's relatively few souls looking for one in that price range.

If you're truly high-end, you're mixing on an ICON or a console, and if you're not, your likely going to spend your spare five grand on preamps, U47 clones, and bus compressors, right? I mean, if you've got a mid-level studio (or home project set-up), and you've got several grand to spend, wouldn't those items benefit you a lot more than a big mouse? I think most the marketing plans of most (controller) manufacturers reflect that reality.

I know, I know...faders are so much better than roll and click. I agree. But...

What I'd like...if I were looking for a big mouse for PT...is something like the Control 24, but without the useless Focus-crap mic pres, and therefore a lot cheaper. That might be OK and worth it.

For what it's worth...

Or perhaps a combination control surface and summing bus?

Use your racks of preamps for input... send the output through the control surface's summing bus - maybe even make the faders work and make it a basic (BASIC!) mixer. No EQ, no sends, just level, pan and maybe inserts.

I think that would be a good unit.. but I'm also crazy.

You know what I would like?

-16 high-end motorized faders,
-16 scribble strips
-and NOTHING ELSE.

Slim/low profile - channel select/bank, of course.

Would be ideal for a composition/ production/ mixing/ custom peripheral environment. thumbsup

I kinda got into an unexpected war of words with a Mook over at Mackie.

I expressed to them that there was a tremendous market for a midlevel desk. That the topic was huge in the nuendo forums.

This arse dissmissed me, saying that they'd done the research and there was no market.

All mackie has to do is retool the 8Db with 2 mackie control fader banks, a passive monitoring path with full control room monitoring section/talkback and a few other knobs and they'd make a mint.

They seemed focused on a new digital live board.

From what i can tell there is a whole host of folks that want more than the mackie control, and sitting the extender packs next to one...looks like an afterthought, its not very well integrated.

Mid Level studios want something that looks 'Consoleish" and has more than 8 faders.

Oh well........

They are very upfront about what it will and won't do in each program:

Call them, very helpful!

I think you're right about this. What's up with the whole 8 fader thing anyway? Now I don't have any real experience in building hardware, but one might think a 16 or 24 fader version of [insert company name] 8 fader version shouldn't be THAT much more expensive to build, but they sure would be able to sell them for a higher price. Am I totally wrong here?

What about http://www.tascam.com/Products/US-2400.html

I've seen them around, but never actually used one. Seems like a pretty cool unit, but again, don't know much about it. I think they are around $1500 (probably less used).

This piece has me very intrigued by it...
I read the piece on Amon Tobin in the bew Remix, and saw that he uses it..

Wondering how it works with PTLE?

Also, where can I see and try one of these bad boys?

Hmmm....I still see them available at a few places online, and at a couple local stores, but I do see that Tascam has discontinued them - that sucks. You can probably still find them on eBay and the like. I am still wondering if anyone has experience with them - they look kinda cool.

A keyboard and a mouse. You can get them for around $30 at Best Buy, Circuit City or Target or Wall Mart. If you can't find them there, look online for some vintage ones....

They are pretty cool. It's crap that Tascam discontinued them because the user base for the unit is quite passionate about keeping it alive.

I've got my configured to do absolutely everything I need to in Nuendo.

AND someone has made a scribble strip / meter bridge for the unit and will hopefully soon be sharing the plans for the DIY enthuiasts out there.

It looks like this (see attached) and he's also made a hot key extension too.

I own one as well, and think it's a shame that they were discontinued!
