560 on the mix bus

Hi All,

i apologise if this has been covered before, I just spend the last half an hour searching, but couldn't find anything on this particular question.

I'm currently looking around for an EQ for the 2 bus when mixing, . I remember hearing some talk of 560's being used as a mix bus EQ on a U2 album or something ilke that, and thought that If they do work nicely on the mix bus, then that would be killing two birds with one stone (i.e. i can use them on drums etc when tracking, and on the mix buss when mixing)

Unfortunately gear like the GML, Cranesong etc. are a bit out of my price range atm.
but I'd love to hear any other suggestions for EQ's in that price range (around 1600 US for the pair, or one stereo unit)

Thanks

Alex

Hey Alex,

I am wondering, Why do you want an EQ on the 2buss? Is it an eq the bad out of the room sort of thing? Or is it a final 2buss eq sort of mastering sort of thing? ( Holy smokes, I just sounded like WALTERS to myself.) What do you want the 560s to do?

Hi unsung,

I am looking to use them as a final 2buss EQ sort of mastering thing, ..something that i can use to slap a bit of bottom / tops over the entire mix when needed. i may be waaayyyyy off when suggesting the 560 for this task, people may feel inclined to slap me over the face with an 8200 for suggesting the use of the 560 on the 2buss. but hey, no harm in asking right?....

I think then maybe the 560's are too big a hammer as final "mastering" eqs AND I DON'T REALLY KNOW THAT. But I would guess that.......... because I would not use my 550's for that purpose.

SO I would snoop around and see what 's out there . So many great eqs, these days. How's about something like this ?

I have the 550m... mastering versions. I use them on the two buss... mastering... mixing, stems, etc. They are seriously powerful eq's. Most of the time I only use 1/2 a db of boost or cut. So I can't imagine the 560's would be subtle enough for the 2bus.

For your price range, try the Speck, Toft, Langevin, SPL Qure, or the Pullet (which I really wanna get... so if you get it let me know how you like it)

I think I may go the specks

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions, after much deliberation I'm think I'm going to try ang get my hands on a pair of the speck EQ's, the other EQ's all are great suggestions, just a bit to pricey at this point in time. you guys are right however, the 560's may be a bit drastic for subtle mix bus EQ i may have a , I'm looking to get a 500 rack and pick up a few other things for it, so the new speck V's that fit in the 500 rack will do nicely, I'll make some more $$ first, get a pair of 550m's and retire the specks for use elsewhere, Only thing is I'd love to hear some stuff that was done on them before jumping in. the research continues...

I'd go for a couple of Avedis E27, especially if you are considering the 500 format.
