Thread Starter | how to use an oscilloscope into an audio studio
Hi my brother is electronics engineer and he gives me an old osciloscope to use inside a studio, well I used too osciloscopes in my student childhood, but I don´t know how to use ( the purposes ) an scope into a studio, he saids to me that he saw some audio engieneers using them for example to mastering, but I can´t imagine how to use it. Is anyone also using them???? could explain me how to use it in an audio environment?'?? thanks for all |

| What to do with an o'scope?
The best way to use an oscilloscope is to repair/align/verify your gear. That said, you can look at the relative phase of your 2-bus signal in the X-Y mode. This is well-documented in every 1st year audio textbook. With some accessories, you can look at your power-line distortion/noise modes on the oscilloscope display. A OneAC Line Viewer 103 is one type. Karl

| I had a scope in my mastering room. Used it only check stereo phase and head alignment.

| Lives for gear | Works great on your modular synth
If you have a modular, or complex synth at all.. then scope can be great for figuring out what the hell is happening and really get a better understanding of the audio. I have mine hooked up to my minimoog a lot, and it's rather fun. Also great to test/fix almost any equipment in the studio. Tape machines, old delays, guitar pedals, whatever... always useful for looking at the signal.
