Gearslutz/NAMM Party Saturday Jan 20th.

The 2nd Annual Gearslutz/NAMM Party is:

Saturday January 20th 8pm on...
@
Vocal Asylum/7th Level Productions
6381 Hollywood Blvd. Suite 700
Los Angeles, CA 90028
323 462 4722
(on th corner of Hollywood and Cahuenga)
(Press #700 or #702 at the door for entrance)
(park in lots for about 10 bucks, don't park in alleys, CVS or 7-11)

Last year was slammin'! This year plans to be even better. B-Magical and I have been talking about some themes; we will be doing a mic/mic pre/compressor shootout for sure. We're thinking of some sort of a mixing thing where people can check out different plugins and we can compare mixing techniques. Also I'm looking into summing out of the box. If I go for it I'll definately add it to the party. Let people a/b ITB and OTB and let them check out mixes.

We'll have food, drinks and audio. Everyone is invited. RSVP on this thread. Thanks Jules for bringing us all together with gearslutz!

Note: Any vendor or manufacturer that wants to show their gear at the shootout RSVP you and your gear on this thread but also contact me via PM. Everyone is welcome.

I will be bringing the customary Gearslutz pens, otherwise known as 'the lifeforce' to distribute...

You don't HAVE to go to NAMM to come to this party. NAMM is just the excuse for it!

This forums web statistics reveal that LA is THE biggest city for gearslutz, its the Gearslutz capital of the world!

Be great to meet you peeps and see old friends..

Damn that B-Magical. He stole my mixing theme. Hahahaha!!!!

But seriously, it would be great to coerce some of our mentors to join in on the mixing fun. I know that Mike Shipley is just around the corner in Studio City. Dave Pensado is nearby, as well.

Shipley is a major Gearslutz proponent, as he fully endorses the site on his Myspace page!!!

Yeah we're about an hour north of NAMM in Hollywood. People who need a ride to and from Anahiem post it and people who have cars that will be going to and from Anahiem and are willing to car pool post. Let's get everyone to the party!

From many hours staring at those empty bottles; it's GREY GOOSE. Unless of course you're talking about a grey goose clone made in china!

If there are enough of you out of towners it might be worth pitching in & renting a van. Or hiring a bus or limo if you're planning on inebriating.

NAMM Party

Dear James and Jules:

I would love to come, probably with Jesse and a few others (like the designer of the darkblue preamp I had at the last party). Could I bring Dennis Marshall (preamp inventor) and the preamp so we could go through a power amp and speaker enclosure this time? He could then get really technical for anybody that is interrested.

Let me know?

PLEASE NOTE: Manufacturers shouldn't lose sight that its a party, not a product launch event! Gear demos cant be 'guaranteed' in any way, nor can the demo conditions, demo durations etc... People drift in and out at these events at various times. You could travel to the party with some demo gear only to find that there isn't time, for people to hear it, or that the minute some folks are done playing with it and its back in its box, 10 of the biggest recording engineers in town walk through the door. If you can handle all that with good humor then cool.

Feel free to bring T-shirts etc to hand out, beer is also good! Come to party!

One other thing, remember some of the industries top gear will be present, so if you're not into having your gear put head to head, live in a room of engineers to be scrutinized leave your product home and just show up and have fun. These shootouts are no joke and the audience can be brutal.

That's what it's all about - getting down to the nitty gritty. Jsut thought it would be fun to do a "shoot out" if the time is available. Besides, that gear will hold its own with the best of the best and we are not kids - we can take criticism with a smile and a notepad to make improvements - no such thing as bad constructive criticism!!!

Bob,

I didn't realize how the context of my disclaimer may have looked coming after Jules' response to you. I in no way was directing that toward you, you were a very cool guy. I was just stating it in general so everyone knew the nature of what goes down at my studio during one of these events. A lot of people have never been to a shootout bafore and they think 'oh I'll bring my new box down there and everything will be great' and sometimes it doesn't go the way they want it to and their 2k whatever gets smoked by another piece. It happens. Peace.
