Ramsa wr32

Hello there, first post on this board, woohooo
not a very slutty one but whatever...

A strange piece of gear has landed in my hands, and I don't have a clue what it's worth, if I should keep it, sell it, or do something else...

It's a Ramsa wr32 analog board. It's an 8 channel, not very "featury" board, and actually is a sort of "portable" board (well there's a top bit and if close it, the board is just like a small suitcase). A friend of mine just gave it to me when we were in audiovisual school, tellig me that her step-father used it a long time ago but not anymore and he was cleaning up... That guy is into video editing.

It has a 2 band eq (which don't seem to be sweepable), and more or less nothing more...

I know Ramsa is the sound branch of Panasonic, and apparently thy seem to make some decent pieces of gear, but I just can't find anything about this one... If anybody can lighten me up... ??? If you know roughly what it's worth (if you actually KNOW this, not just from the description that I've made; I can do that myself, thanks), or better if you have already used it anywhere...

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks sluts

Hi, there. I am smiling because of a similar piece of gear I own. It is a Tascam M30 board - 8 channels, meter bridge, fully set up for small recording studio work - even has sweepable mids. The unit is in excellent condition, both electrically and mechanically. It cost $1300 new, back in the mid '80's. I placed it for sale a number of places, asking $250-300. The only response was the ubiquitous spam e-mail that began: 'Greetings Dear One...'

It is kind of sad. Gear has changed so much. This thing is built very well, with real discrete parts - as is yours. Doesn't seem to be a market - at least for the Tascam.

I wish you the best in your sale.
Best.

Yeah I agree it's sort of sad.
Concerning the Ramsa, in fact I don't even know yet if I'm gonna sell it or not. I guess it'll depend on how much I can sell it for. But before that I'll have to do extensive testing, I might actually want to keep it but I'm not sure I'm gonna have a great need for that...
Well anyway, thanks for your time Byll.

Anyone else out there with more info???

Eric Johnson has used a Ramsa Console on some of his lead stuff. That right there would make me keep it at all cost

Yeah but it's nothing like a large format mixing console...

I mean it's more like an editor's tool, whatsoever. I guess one could compare it (featurewise & sizewise) to a mackie 1604 sort of thing...

But then, still no clue about the sound in itself, or the value... (still no time to test it)

Does it have direct outs on each channel, and how does the pre-amps sound? If good, then maybe a front end for tracking some things...

No direct outs...
Still no time to test out the pres, but I was thinking of that too.
But it only has a stereo line out, stereo rec out (in cynch), a monitor out, an FX send and return, and I think that's it. So not that great for a tracking front end (unless if I do 2 mics takes only... )

i know im resurrecting this thread, but im wondering if anyone out there ever got any use out of a ramsa wr-32. . theres one on german ebay for cheap still . .

i would only go for it if the preamps are as good as the other higher-end ramsa and i could use them somehow; rack them up or build direct outs. . .

anyone?

I've got a Ramsa 133 (very similar or identical to the 32). True, they were the thing in smaller video production studios, and I've even seen them at work in bigger studios as portable mixers. Mine is a remnant of my full-time video days.

The pres are not worth the trouble of re-racking. Actually pretty good, but re rack would be a lot of work. You can get 4 outs by routing to L-R-Aux-Effects.

I like it for the same reasons it found its way into so many video studios: It's built like a BSH; good components; de-tented gain controls; pres are clean; very solid sounding DI box. All around, I think a pretty good step above the pro-sumer Tascam and Fostex mixers of the era. Pre's probably on par with early Mackie stuff.

I've found the EQ to be fairly useless. They can be had for under $200 usually. Worth much more if you have use for it, but not a good buy if you already have the bases covered with higher level pro gear.

wr-133

Just broke mine out for the first time in a couple years. Really good box for getting that raging waterfall sound by moving all the faders up with nothing going into it. They probably sounded nice when they were new.

Agree with above post that its better than not having any mixer but not spectacular in any way. Gotta check them out individually for usability after almost 30 years depending on model. Not worth sinking time and money into, but cool if it is ready to go as is.
