Building my own Effects Library

Hey!

I was wondering what gear do you use for recording your effects? (like: birds,wind,cars,people,...)

I want to get my own library and don't know whic hard disk recorder and mic to buy.
Any idea?

It would be nice if you post your own effects recorded!

Thanx!

Laptop
Apogee Mini-Me with battery supply (from Cascade Media) and USB card.
AT 4050. An LDC with switches between cardiod and omni would be optimal.
You'll have a hard time finding better preamps and conversion (with limiting functions) in something so small.
You can then use the Mini-Me in your studio.

I use a Sound Devices 722 harddisk recorder with a Rode Nt4 microphone and a Rycote windshield.
If you want to record outside you will need a windshield too.

The 722 gets me great results and records at 24bit up to 192khz. I hear no noise on my recordings. The 722 feels sturdy. Mine has a 40 gigabyte harddisk, but it's replaceable by a larger one.
I'm really content with this solution.

PS the bright colored meter leds look very cool too!

Edirol R-4 with a Rode NT-4 mic. I also keep an Edirol R-09 in my pocket wherever I go, you never know if you need to record something on the fly.
