Euro Metal Drum Sounds..? How?

Hey people..

I am about to embark on an album for a metal band of the soilwork ilk who want a similar drum sound to all their favorite records...

i know that this is rediculous based on their budget but i was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as far as samples or micing techniques go..

the guys that engineer these records have got the genre down to a fine art so they must have some sort of method..

Thanks in advance

JT

You'll probably have to replace alot of the drums with samples, or better... mix in samples with the original drums. You could do this in your daw or something like drumagog. I suppose Drumkit From Hell is the most used library but maybe a more processed library would help you more. These bands edit VERY heavily. Apart from that the bassdrum and the snare is always quantized 100%, it is also very important to edit the bass and guitars to be super duper tight. A big part of why we think the snare sound (for example) is so great is because the bass and the guitars are hitting in exactly at the same time. Many of these bands sample the guitars and trigger them with a midi note. So it's really not only the drums that make the drumsound good.

i've got drumagog and used it extensively on their last release but the soundsthat come with drumagog kind of suck

is DKFH heaps better for sounds? ...and can it be used in conjunction with drumagog...?

track with triggers. Sample replace the shit out of everything like Sneap does. Quantize to 100%. Say farewell to all feel and groove.

Another thing to do is have the drummer do individual hits and sample those instead.
