| Mew: And the Glass Handed Kites this album has really been in heavy rotation around my place. i am not normally into the prog-rock thing (if you could call it that) but the mixing of the album and the gleeful anthemic choruses that abound are really superb IMO. does anyone know anything about the tracking and mixing of this album (i know Mew is from Denmark so i assume it was recorded there)? ~j.d.

| Gear interested | I was lucky enough to hang out with the guys from MEW after their show at Webster Hall, NYC. They told me that Michael Beinhorn produced their new record. Rich Costey mixed their previous record 'frengers'. If you like their record, check them out live... I believe they playback sync'd 'Sound Design' to their live performace and to the 'Visuals-Movies' that the singer Jonas created (motion graphics)... http://www.vintageking.com/site/files/beinhorn.htm I think it sounds brilliant and I love how the 'low-end' sounds on the record. Best bass sounds I've heard in a long time. I feel that the bass guitar is the 'secret-weapon' that people tend to forget about. More facts about 'Beinhorn': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Beinhorn "Looking for a better way to capture low frequencies during the recording process, Beinhorn helped develop the Ultra Analog Recording format. This process utilizes two inch magnetic tape, running at 7.5 inches per sec (21.5 cm. per sec)." I will mosdef look out for more of his work... hope this helps... jon 'flow' http://www.produktsound.com |

| MEW is awesome! I saw them live in Seattle WA earlier this year and was blown away. Their previous album Frengers is also excellent.
