DP 3.1 available for download to registered users!!!

just got done skimming through the pdf manual... and can i say HOLY SHIT!!! packed with TONS of features... some stuff that no other DAW offers [that im aware of] and many features now included like multiple track editing, track grouping, nesting within the groups, soundbite window folders, 'heal' command for split midi/audio, scissors, mute regions, blah blah blah.... too much stuff to remember.

Well it's about time. I'm going to go get it right now. Thanks for posting it Alphajerk, I gave up monitoring the MOTU site for it weeks ago. I can't wait for these new features. Did they get the timeline-based multiple undo's thing in? Oh well, I just go see for myself

yeah, the timeline based undo is more powerful than ANY company has ever put out [of all the apps i have used... photoshop, corel, macromedia, fcp, any DAW shit] you can have FULL history from the beginning of the project and branch out from undos... redo's, audio soundbite undo/redos... EVERYTHING.

its just sick.

i think this update makes DP the most powerful DAW out right now in terms of features [logic only competing with their logic plugs with tdm if you are a tdm user], but strictly native.

i noticed a lot of the bugs like the tray windows disappearing with more than one wrapper are now fixed. i never had problems with the track window freezing so i guess thats fixed...

I can't wait to give it a go. I hope I can have different soundbite windows on different sequences and make that retroactive. Fingers crossed.

It's WAY more stable now. Did a session last night, first time I turned it on after installing, we layed about 20 tracks - no window freezing, no MIDI/USB time syncronizing issues, no hangups, and didn't have to reboot the application all night

Dual 450 Mac, 'bout a Gig O' RAM, 2 30 Gig LVD 160 drives, 200 Gig of IDE storage, 2408, lightpipe to Sony DMX R100. But wait, I didn't try any MIDI yet, only audio. Will Try MIDI tonight. Also will try the cool undo thing. AJ is right, there is no other DAW that comes close to that. Period.

downloaded 3.1 today...can't wait to install it tomorrow. been reading all the forums to see what the feedback was first.

it all looks good. FWIW, i've never had any stability issues with DP.. been using it since 2.3. ( except that whole OMS shizznat...love the emulator).

hey jeronimo... what drives are you using? have you defragged the project [if its the ONLY project on it]? i use DMA drives and have this problem... BUT it doesnt technically freeze. it stalls for like 15 seconds, maybe 30 sometimes... acts like its frozen BUT if you leave the mouse exactly where you want it and leave it it SHOULD eventually go to that place and "unfreeze". BUT if i keep my HD's really tight, it doesnt do it.... then after more recording and fragmenting it does it again. i am assumming its a DMA drive problem, i GUESS. so i am going to be going back to my 10kscsi drives soon.

i dont know why it does this... i havent yet had a problem with 3.1 with this yet but i havent done extensive recording/editing yet. tomorrow will tell though. first session on 3.1. well actually tonight i will be doing stuff on it along with MIDI. so maybe tonight i will know more in regards to 3.1

Yes I do suck, that's why I don't have the problems you speak of.

When you say freeze do you mean crash? Or just stall as AJ is referring to?

BTW you didn't ask for help, I would have gladly given it but instead I chose to respond "in kind" to your remarks about MOTU. Just because it wasn't working for you on your platform doesn't mean that it's broken or sucks. People are so quick to blame the company when it's usually the individual who's to blame. I don't think MOTU would still be selling DP3 if it sucked.

Yeah fibes, I didn't ask for help and I'm not blaming MOTU for nothing... I'm saying that DP 3 doesn't work at it supposed to do, by the way, I have PT LE and LAP on the same machine, on the same partition, and I never, ever had a hardcrash... so... yeah, maybe I'm doing something wrong huh?
MOTU have a very good application, but... it is NOT as stable as Pro Tools, this is real... if it was, I bet it would have a bigger share on the market right now.

I worked on a lab with 15 DP 3 workstations right after working on another lab with PT LE 5.1.1 and guess what...
The machines w/ DP needs a looooot more attention...
Those are my opinions...

And thanks AJ for your reply... I'll try to put the session on a clean partition and see what happens :)

One thing I have noticed about 3.1 is that sometimes while recording audio or MIDI, the wiper gets stuck, and then jumps ahead to where it should be, only to stick again, learching forward every few seconds. It doesn't seem to affect the recording, though. Even though it's a drag to see it (no pun intended), it hasn't ruined a take or crashed the software yet.

I read about that same bug on Unicornation and haven't witnessed it yet. I guess I'm just lucky. Keeping a clean drive is definately something to keep in the habit of. The only problems I have are after a few months of no routine "maintenance."

i had the wiper issue yesterday while recording but i dont know if it was an "issue"... only happened while recording and i was tracking with tons of plugins on the mix AND monitoring THROUGH effects, so im sure i was bogging shit down. on playback its smooth as a freshly waxed kunt.
