The HR824's do NOT suck dfegad I find that are very accurate and great for adjusting reverbs and pin pointing tight Q settings for hard to hear frequencies. Sure they are a bit confusing on the bass side but, listen to your favourate mixes on them and you'll be able to A/B from your mix to the other. Also, carry another set of speakers in your studio so that you can A/B with those as well. We even have a set of B&W's wired through a home stereo to give us an idea of what "the stereo" feel is. Hey, I'd love to run a couple wires to my car and be able to mix in there! hahaha Good Luck! Ps: don't dump the HR824's Jason

well, the bass is not the problem for me.. the mid highs are.. where cross stick happens. i just heard a pair of the dynaudio bm15a's on the strength of what some posters said in comparison to the wacks.. they ****ing ***KILLED*** them... murdered them. for breakfast lunch and a snack. really, i could not believe it. u gotta understand, i'm coming from a budget thats allowed me only the wacks for the past 3 years, nothing else to really refence to. (kinda why i started this thread... to get a cheap pair of somethings to mix on) dont really know what imaging is, except what text tells me. but i do have pretty good ears, and what the rep played thru the wacks and what he played thru the dynaudios (commercial cd) was night and daylight.. |

And the really sick thing is that the passive Dyn's are DAMN affordable. Like half the cost of their active brothers. Of course you need a solid amp but still...

I use a small speaker mix to check the mids to see, for example, if a snare is poking out too much in a mix. At my studio that doesn't require anything special from an amp. I like the RCA cubes because they have a single 4" speaker. I think they might be discontinued now but I bought a half dozen of them when they cleared them out at $9 a pop. These cubes don't replace my other reference monitors; Quested 2108's or Tannoy NFM-8. | |

I use the Yamaha A100a to hear the crappy-ness of my RCA-branded RS cubes in all its glorious detail.
