Anyone tried this mic out yet...it's ready to land here in Aussie. Where is it's place in the studio...voice, guitar, brass, strings ??? Thanks Nick |

It's got a big low end (no roll off like on a R-121) and a very linear upper mid and attenuated top. I think it's too dark for most vocals, unless the person has a stringent voice, then it's just the thing. Bowed string instruments, front of kit/room mics, electric guitars, horns...yes. Overheads, acoustic guitars, piano, maybe sometimes, but usually not (for my tastes anyway). Goes for most ribbons.

I used a pair for overheads, top rotor on organ, banjo, mandolin, and dobro last week, as well as for bass harmonica. Back off a foot or three and it's very, very cool

Dave, How are you able to get a mic 3 feet from a player in a bluegrass situation? Are you doing overdubs? | |

The other thing about it is that you can crank up the high end on your EQ and put some sparkle in it, without any spit or splat. So it can work well for vocals, especially females with sibilance or nasality problems. Might sound really good if you sound like Jim Reeves or Nat Cole too... |

Its not a first choice for vocals but I recently used it on an operatic style female vocalist who was too sibilant for my condensers and it was just the trick. As Dan said, it takes EQ really well. I love this mic on guitar cabinet and brass. Nice for a different flavor on percussion- shakers and cabasas especially. |
